Abstract
A vehicle shift lever locking mechanism for retrofitting to motor vehicles includes in one form a universal adapter to enable the locking mechanism to be fitted to shift levers of a wide variety of motor vehicles. The universal adapter is received at least in part within a handle and a locking assembly is also received in part within the universal adapter and the handle so as to mechanically interlock the components in assembled relationship. The handle is designed to overlie the fastening arrangement which secures the universal adapter to the shift lever and thus prevents unauthorized removal of the locking mechanism. Embodiments of the locking mechanism are suited for either cable or rod actuated shift mechanisms. In another form the locking mechanism is formed for attachment to a steering column shift mechanism and includes a lock assembly movable within a housing mounted on the steering column to a position in which the lock assembly prevents pivotal releasing movement of the shift lever.

A device for selectively placing an automobile's parking brake in its operative and inoperative positions, including (a) a pivotable lever connected to the brake via a cable; (b) a stationary sector having a plurality of teeth; (c) a pawl pivotably supported by the lever and engageable at its first arm with the sector's teeth; (d) a knob fitted over its axial part in a longitudinal hole formed in a lever's free-end portion, the knob being retractable inward upon pushing thereof; (e) a release rod connected at its first end to pawl's second arm and including a head fitted in a recess formed in the knob's axial part; (f) a first spring permitting the pawl to be pivoted in a direction in which to cause its first arm to be engaged with the sector; and (g) a second spring fitted in the knob's recess to bias the rod's head to be engaged with a stopper provided in the recess. The knob has a cylindrical shape and is fitted in the lever's longitudinal hole about is axis, while the rod's head has a pair of opposite side surfaces fitly engageable with a pair of opposed wall surfaces of the knob's recess, respectively, whereby the knob is not rotatable in the lever's longitudinal hole. Another embodiment of the above elements (a)-(g) and a sleeve having an inside hole through which a shaft of the release rod in place extends.

6298743 - Selector lever for an automatic gearbox - Owned by HKR Haas GmbH & Co. Kunstsoff KG (Reichenschwand,DE)

The invention relates to a selector lever for an automatic gearbox, comprising a handle (13) with a hollow shaft (3) connected thereto; a stop bar which can move in an axial direction (11) in the hollow shaft (3) between a stop position and a release position, wherein the stop bar of the selector lever (1) can pivot into various shift positions and is fixed in a selected shift position when the stop bar is in a stop position; and a guided actuating part (5) in said handle, pertaining to an actuating device (11) running parallel to an axial direction, said part being used to displace the stop bar into a release or stop position. The invention is characterized in that at least one wedge surface (16a,16b) of the actuating part (5) co-operates with at least one counter surface in the manner of a wedge ballader gear, said counter surface forming part of a sliding piece (6) which is forcibly guided in an axial direction (11) in the handle (13) which is coupled to the actuating end (7) of the stop bar facing the handle (13) during movement by means of a non slack-free or moveable connection in the actuating device (11).

5735148 - Locking structure for an automobile transmission shift lever

An auto-transmission shift lever locking structure for an automobile is disclosed. The locking structure includes a base member mounted to a free end of the shift lever and a cover member secured to the base member, defining therebetween a space for disposing therein a locking member and a U-shaped hook member. The base member is provided with a concave slot thereon. The cover member is provided with a first channel and a second channel. A locking driver has a driving rod rotatable by a key for locking or unlocking the locking device. The locking driver is mounted into the first channel of the cover member, used to operate the driving member and further control the U-shaped hook member. A shift enabling button with a spring is inserted into the second channel of the cover member to perform shifting of the transmission system when the locking structure is at unlocked position.

5134764 - Anti-theft hand brake

In an anti-theft hand brake arrangement for a motor vehicle having a ratchet release mechanism operable by a push button, exposed at the end of a handbrake lever, the push-button incorporates a cylinder lock. In the locked condition, the push-button may still be depressed, but without acting on the ratchet release mechanism, while in the unlocked condition an abutment member at the inner end of the push-button is so positioned as to engage a release member of the ratchet release mechanism when the push-button is depressed, thereby to release the brake ratchet.
