Tub sizes for paper, containing aqueous or aqueous-alcoholic alkali metal, amine or ammonium salt solutions of copolymers of maleic anhydride and diisobutylene and, if appropriate, a vinyl monomer of the formula ##STR1## in which R designates H, --CH.sub.3, --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, --OR.sub.2, --OCOCH.sub.3, ##STR2## --CH.sub.2 OH or --CH.sub.2 --O--COCH.sub.3, R.sub.1 designates H or --CH.sub.3 and R.sub.2 designates alkyl, the anhydride groups of the copolymers being bis-esterified to the extent of about 3 to about 20 mol %, relative to the anhydride groups, with aliphatic monoalcohols having 1 to 12 C atoms.
The present invention refers to a paper surface sizing composition comprising a copolymer having: a) structural units derived from ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbons; structural units derived from monomers selected from esters of ethylenically unsaturated mono-carboxylic acids, half-esters of ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, allylethers and vinylethers and mixtures thereof; optionally c) structural units derived from ethylenically unsaturated monomers selected from monocarboxylic acids as well as salts and amides thereof, dicarboxylic acids as well as salts, amides and half-amides thereof, and cyclic anhydrides and imides of dicarboxylic acids and mixtures thereof; and optionally d) structural units derived from alkyl or amino-substituted alkyl acrylates or methacrylates with the proviso, that if no structural units c) are present, the structural units b) are derived from monomers selected from half esters of ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids.
A regeneratable adsorber for adsorbing adsorbable contaminates from a fluid stream containing same is disclosed. The adsorber includes an adsorber housing in which there is a fluid stream inlet and a fluid stream outlet. The adsorber also includes a plurality of adsorber chambers which are arranged in an indexable wheel configuration. Each chamber includes an electrically conductive adsorbent, such as a monolithic activated carbon, a set of electrical conductors in contact with the adsorbent, and an inlet and outlet. A chamber is either in contact with a source of contaminate fluid or a desorbent fluid used to regenerate the adsorber. The adsorber includes selectively indexed chambers for adsorption or desorption to provide continuous contaminate adsorption and regeneration.
The instant invention relates to poly(maleimide-co-alkenyl benzene) centipede polymer and a method for producing the polymer by reacting a poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleic anhydride) in the presence of a primary amine in a substantially dry state. The invention is further directed to a process for blending the poly(maleimide-co-alkenyl benzene) centipede polymer with elastomeric polymers, in combination with, or in substitution of, conventional extender oils, to produce extended polymers having improved properties such as tensile strength, maximum elongation, tear strength, damping properties, and the like.
The present invention teaches a method for enabling the formation of a high damping, soft polymer gel. The method includes: reacting a poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer with a maleated polyalkylene and an alkyl diamine under substantially dry conditions sufficient to form a polyalkylene grafted poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer product; and, dispersing the polyalkylene grafted poly(alkenyl benzene-co-maleimide) polymer product with an extender oil sufficient to form the gel. The present invention also contemplates a polymer gel composition, a polymer composition and an article manufactured from the polymer gel composition.
Thermoplastic elastomers containing hard segments formed from polyalkylenes and soft segments formed from elastomeric polymers near their gelation point are formed. Compositions containing these materials are elastomeric and exhibit excellent damping capabilities over a wide range of temperatures and frequencies.
