An oil-in-water cream or lotion emulsion formulation containing clotrimazole having improved antifungal properties containing various amounts of clotrimazole, petrolatum, cetearyl alcohol, propylene glycol, and ceteth-20, with or without other additional ingredients.
Gel bases for pharmaceutical compositions comprise from about 0.5 to about 10.0% by weight ethoxylated (2 to 30 moles of ethoxylation) behenyl alcohol and from about 90 to 99.5% of a glycol solvent or from about 2.5 to about 10.0% by weight ethoxylated fatty alcohols having a chain length of from 16 to 21 carbon atoms and from 90 to about 97.5% of a glycol solvent. Preferred glycol solvents include propylene glycol and polyethylent glycols having an average molecular weight of about 200 to 800. Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for topical, transmucosal and oral administration may be prepared utilizing the novel gel bases. Methods of administration of topically, systemically and orally active pharmaceutical agents utilizing the novel gel bases are also provided.
An antibacterial composition for external application, particularly, a remedial formulation for external use containing fluconazole is disclosed. The formulation comprises a base material, 0.1-5.0 percent by weight of fluconazole and 1.0-40.0 percent by weight of any one compound selected from a group consisting of fatty acid, fatty alcohol, higher fatty acid ester and lower alcohol based on weight of the base material. The composition according to the present invention has various advantages of a favorable absorption into a system through the skin of a human body and delivery of active material into horny layer of the skin, a reduced skin stimulation and an excellent stability. Therefore, the composition is efficiently useable in a medical treatment application for dermatomycosis-related infectious diseases including tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea versicolor and/or candidiasis and the like.
A substrate treated with a lotion including a skin pH balancing compound and a base lotion. The pH balancing compound is preferably an organic acid, such as an alpha-hydroxy acid, an alpha-dihydroxy acid, or a beta-hydroxyacid, a combination of an organic acid and a salt of an organic acid, or a buffer combination, such as combinations of citric acid and disodium phosphate, or disodium citrate and sodium hydroxide. The preferred lotion has the effect of maintaining the skin acid mantle while making the treated substrate, preferably tissue, towel or napkin, optionally wet-strengthened, wipe or nonwoven material, feel smooth, lubricious and nongreasy. The skin care benefits of the lotionized substrate are expressed whether the product is used dry or prewetted with water.
A method for treating onychomycosis without drilling a hole in a nail plate or without daily scraping of the nail, comprising topically administering to the afflicted nail of a mammal i) a medicated device comprising salicylic acid or a salt, ester or mixture thereof in a plaster preparation, wherein said plaster preparation is attached to a carrier and the salicylic acid is present in the plaster preparation in an amount ranging from about 10 to about 80 percent (%) by weight of the plaster preparation; or ii) a liquid preparation comprising salicylic acid or a salt, ester or mixture thereof in a film-forming liquid vehicle, and the salicylic acid is present in the liquid preparation in an amount ranging from about 6 to about 35% by weight of the liquid preparation.
