Abstract
An insulation article usable either by itself or to provide an increased efficiency to a fibrous insulating medium comprises a first plastic sheet with closed cells of entrapped air bonded to a metal foil sheet in turn bonded to a layer formed from a sheet of paper or other moisture absorbing material. Passages are formed through each of the layers to permit the passage of vapor and to regulate the flow of thermal energy.

Related Patents
4902550 - Laminated insulating material - Owned by EIGI Corporation (Essex, CT)

A laminated insulating material of the type utilizing at least two layers of insulation medium and includes a third layer of closed cell plastic interposed between each insulation layer. The air space created within the closed cells absorbs otherwise escaping thermal energy thereby reducing the amount of kinetic energy escaping out of the insulated environment. The third insulation layer serves as a secondary barrier to absorb residual thermal energy passing through the plastic layer. The arrangement of the laminated material increases the efficiency of the insulation as a thermal barrier thereby allowing it to operate more effectively in comparison to other known insulating materials. An additional facing of one, two or three piles of sheet material may also be fixed to the outer face of the third insulation layer.

6444289 - Perforated faced insulation assembly - Owned by Owens Corning Fiberglas Technology, Inc. (Summit, IL)

An insulation assembly for a forced gas unit comprises a facing layer and a porous insulation layer joined together by an adhesive. The facing layer includes pressure-balancing and non-pressure-balancing regions. Perforations are formed in the facing layer after the facing layer and the insulation layer are joined together and after the adhesive is cured. The perforations allow gas to flow through the facing layer so as to adequately balance the static pressures acting on the exposed and non-exposed surfaces of the facing layer.

6128879 - Insulation barrier - Owned by CPI Packaging, Inc. (Marlboro, NJ)

The insulation barrier is made with a flexible foam polyethylene substrate and a film which is secured to at least one side of the substrate and which extends from at least one lateral edge of the substrate. The insulation barrier may be supplied in roll form or in panel form. In one embodiment, the film may be provided with a plurality of small holes to permit moisture vapor to pass through under a differential pressure on opposite sides of the barrier. In still another embodiment, the substrate may be provided with spaced apart embossments while the film is provided with pockets receiving the embossments. The barrier has multiple uses as an insulation/vapor barrier for interior and exterior use on buildings including use in roofing, flooring and walls.

4885886 - Nonsettling insulation structure

The disclosure is directed to a nonsettling insulation structure comprising a central support member having a layer of insulative material adhered to each side of the central support member.

7165368 - Insulation blanket with cut guidelines - Owned by CertainTeed Corporation (Valley Forge, PA)

A blanket of fibrous building insulation is provided, for in situ cutting to correspond to spacings between studs or like building members between which the insulation is to be applied. The blanket includes a layer of fibrous insulation material and a facing material adhered thereto. An adhesive provides the adhesion between the two layers. Perforations in the facing material provide openings allowing some of the adhesive to bleed into the perforations to be visible from the opposite side whereby a plurality of perforations provide guidelines for cutting the blanket to desired sizes for installation between structural building members.
