A generally rectangular pillow (2, 2', 2") has a rounded forward neck support portion (10, 10"), a rear head support portion (12, 12', 12"), side portions (24), and a bottom portion (26, 26"). An oblong hollow (30) is formed in the top surface (6) of the pillow body (2, 2', 2"). The hollow (30) accommodates the lower portion of the face of a user lying in a side position to prevent pressure on the face. A projection (42, 42") extends forwardly from rear portion (12, 12', 12") into hollow (30). In use, the rear portion (12, 12', 12") has a central depression for the top of the user's head. The depression is formed by contouring the top surface of the rear portion (12, 12') or by reducing the density at the center of the rear portion (12"), such as by forming an internal cavity (44). A pillowcase (50) has central edges (56, 58) that are fastened to bottom portion (26) to leave hollow (30) unobstructed. Another pillowcase (80) has two top pieces (82, 84) with curved laterally extending edges (86) that are sewn together and cause the top of the pillowcase (80) to drape down into the hollow (30).
A contoured pillow is provided which is designed to accommodate a person sleeping in the supine position or in a side position. The pillow includes a curved ridge along one edge of the pillow to support the neck. The ridge ends in an elliptical depression within the center of the pillow to support the back of a person's head. The elliptical depression allows a person's head a freedom of movement of 45.degree. from either side of its normal vertical position and allows bending of the neck to a certain degree. Along the sides of the depression the pillow is of a greater dimension to support the head when resting on the side of the head. The pillow further includes longitudinal grooves within the side regions of the pillow to prevent a person's ear from being overly compressed against the pillow when resting on one's side. The pillow is of a conventional size and shape and can be used with standard pillow cases, standard sized beds, etc.
A star-like or flower shaped pillow and conforming pillowcase (24) comprised of cushioned extensions (14) radiating out from a center section (16) which create open portions or cavities between said sections. The resulting surface area is designed to provide support for various portions of epidermal tissue to rest on, thereby letting preferred areas remain free from pressure as said areas are suspended over the hollow spaces, thereby avoiding creasing and pressure on the skin.
A pillow that does not promote facial wrinkling or earaches including a solid foam body. The body is sculptured to have hollows or cutouts positioned and specifically shaped on its longitudinal axis for receiving the facial tissue of a user so as to prevent wrinkles to the facial tissue.
An adjuster (100) for use on a pillow, comprising a sheet-like flexible body (200) which is foldable up or down onto itself to provide different thicknesses and has, at or close to a lower edge, a central region (400). The region (400) has a zero or relatively much smaller thickness than that of the body (200) such that opposite sides of the region (400) provide a relatively larger thickness and hence firmer support than the region (400). The region (400) may preferably be a gap (400) formed between a pair of opposed flaps (300) protruding from the body (200).
