The antifouling composition of the present invention includes a glassy matrix formed by crosslinking a mixture of a silanol-terminated silicone and an alkoxy-functionalized siloxane to provide an interpenetrating polymer network of glass and silicone and at least two materials capable of microphase separation, at least one of which is graftable to the glassy matrix. A primer composition is also provided and is a mixture of an epoxy, an alkoxy-functionalized siloxane and a silane capable of compatabilizing the epoxy and the alkoxy-functionalized siloxane; a glassy matrix formed by crosslinking a mixture of a silanol-terminated silicone and an alkoxy-functionalized siloxane.
An antifouling coating formulation includes a first part making up the matrix of the coating. The first part is a silicone-modified titanium silicate glass. A second part of the formulation serves to prevent barnacles and other organisms from attaching to the coating and includes a combination of liquid polymers, oils, or liquid waxes which are incompatible and will phase separate after the mixing. The materials have a chemically reactive group which serve to graft the materials into the matrix. An optional third part of the formulation includes a compound which prevents or inhibits slime formation.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide novel primer compositions for use in bonding a thermoset polyurethane film to the surface of a polymeric substrate. The novel primer composition of the invention is an elastomeric polymer, particularly polyvinylpyrrolidinone, or a copolymer comprising vinylpyrrolidinone and alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate. The construction of the article of the present invention comprises a transparent polymeric substrate, such as stretched acrylic, a primer layer of polyvinylpyrrolidinone or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidinone and alkyl acrylate or alkyl methacrylate on a surface thereof, and a film of thermoset polyurethane on the primer layer. The polyurethane is preferably a reaction product of isocyanate and a polyol such as polycaprolactone polyol, hexanediol carbonate polyol, cyclohexanedimethanol carbonate polyol, phthalate ester polyol, and hexanediol/cyclohexanedimethanol carbonate polyol. The effect of the primer composition of the present invention is to provide adequate adhesion of the thermoset polyurethane film to the polymeric substrate, such as stretched acrylic. The resulting article is particularly useful as an aircraft cabin window.
The antifouling composition of the present invention includes a glassy matrix formed by crosslinking a mixture of a silanol-terminated silicone and an alkoxy functionalized siloxane to provide an interpenetrating polymer network of glass and silicone and at least two materials capable of microphase separation, at least one of which is graftable to the glassy matrix.
The anti-icing composition of the present invention includes a glassy matrix formed by crosslinking a mixture of a functionally-terminated silicone and an alkoxy-functionalized siloxane to provide an interpenetrating polymer network of glass and silicone, at least two materials capable of microphase separation, at least one of which is graftable to the glassy matrix and a freezing point depression agent. The present invention also provides a glass matrix formed by crosslinking a mixture of an epoxy, an alkoxy-functionalized siloxane, and a compound capable of compatibilizing the epoxy and the alkoxy-functionalized silaxane to provide an epoxy-modified interpenetrating polymer network of glass and epoxy.
