5272960 - Dispensing machine - Owned by Mars G. B. Limited (Slough,GB2)

A machine which dispenses beverages from sachets containing a beverage-producing material injects liquid into the sachet. A pressure-sensitive base seam of the sachet is opened by liquid pressure. To prevent the base seam opening explosively and spray solids or liquid away from the beverage receptacle directly below the sachet, a heat source is employed to weaken the seam prior to opening, so that it opens non-explosively by peeling in a controlled manner. The heat source can be internal (an initial volume of hot liquid at a pressure insufficient to break the seal) or external such as a radiant source, hot air or steam. Such a machine is particularly advantageous for dispensing hot chocolate.

6935783 - Single-use container

A single-use container having front and back panels positioned in face-to-face relationship and joined with a sealed region around three edges to define a pouch, with a fourth edge unsealed to form a first opening in the pouch. A pressure sensitive strip on the front and back sides adjacent the opening of the pouch to seal the opening when the front and back sides are pressed closed. A tear line is formed at an opposing end of the pouch to enable opening of the opposing end of the pouch. The container may include a tool pouch defined on four sides by the sealed region and containing a spreading tool. The tool pouch is intersected by the tear line, such that, when the container is torn along the line, the tool is released from the tool pouch.

5860743 - Stable flexible pouch and method for making the pouch - Owned by The Coca-Cola Company (Atlanta, GA)

A flexible pouch includes a flexible compartment with a bottom. A rim is formed around the bottom of the compartment and is spaced from and extends outwardly from this compartment bottom. At least three coplanar feet are provided on the rim for stabilizing the pouch when the pouch is resting on the rim. These coplanar feet can be generally flush with the rim when the pouch is in a flat, empty position. However, when the compartment of the pouch is filled, the coplanar feet will be formed as the lowermost portions of the rim. The pouch will rest on these coplanar feet when on a support to be stably held in position. This pouch design will avoid wobbling or tipping over of the pouch and therefore minimize or eliminate product spillage. Also, a method for making this pouch includes the steps of forming the pouch with the compartment, providing a rim around the bottom of the compartment, and spacing the rim from the bottom of the compartment. A portion of this rim is then removed at the outer edge to form the plurality of coplanar feet.

5709467 - Device and apparatus for mixing alginate

A device for and a method of mixing and dispensing alginate is disclosed. The invention entails a pouch having a sealable aperture through which alginate and water may be added. The pouch also has an sealable spout. The function of these two openings may be performed by a single opening. When the alginate and water are in the pouch, a dentist will mix the two together by manipulating the pouch with his hands. When the contents of the pouch are thoroughly mixed, the spout may be opened and the pouch evacuated. When the pouch is empty, it may be discarded.

5897899 - Cartridges containing substances for beverage preparation - Owned by Nestec S.A. (Vevey,CH)

A sealed cartridge, which need have no marks for weakening and inside which, no filter is needed, contains a substance, such as roasted and ground coffee, for being extracted under pressure. The cartridge has a cup having a base and a lateral wall extending from the base to a lip which extends laterally away from the wall about a cup opening, and the cartridge has a cover sealed to the lip to cover the opening. Either the cover or the base provides a tear face which is torn under stress during extraction of the substance under pressure for preparation of a beverage.
