Abstract
A coupling between an end of a fluid conducting tube and a socket in a housing at the end of a fluid conducting passage in the housing. An annular shoulder on the tube seats on an annular base of the socket in an installed position of the tube and a annulus is defined between the outside of the tube and a circular entry to the socket above the base. A tubular plastic retainer, slidably disposed on the tube behind the annular shoulder and outside the socket, has an outwardly flared front end section which is squeezed to the smaller diameter of the circular entry and pushed into the annulus between the entry and the tube. In a seated position of the retainer, the flared front end section radially overlaps the annular shoulder so that a shear section of the retainer is defined between the annular shoulder and the circular entry. The shear section resists withdrawal of the tube from the socket.

5492374 - Separable insertion-type pipe connection - Owned by Hydraulik-Ring (Weberstrasse,DE)

A separable insertion-type connection is provided for pipes. By way of an end piece having an exterior collar, a pipe can be sealingly inserted into an inserting opening of a connecting body which receives an elastic sealing ring as well as a supporting ring which, in the inserting direction, is arranged in front of the sealing ring and rests against the opening wall. The pipe can then be axially fixed in the inserting opening by a holding part which can be mounted on the connecting body. The insertion-type connection provides long service life of its sealing ring under extreme conditions. For this purpose, the supporting ring is equipped on its face which faces the sealing ring with a sealing lip which sealingly encloses the pipe end piece. As a result, it is achieved that, when acted upon by pressure, the sealing lip, independently of component tolerances, is pressed in a form-locking manner against the circumference of the pipe end piece. An annular gap between the supporting ring and the pipe end piece is closed off, and thus a destruction of the sealing ring by gap extrusion is prevented.

6079750 - Integrated hose body quick connects - Owned by Dana Corporation (Toledo, OH)

Quick connect couplings for connecting a small internal diameter brake hose to a formed metal tube in a brake system includes a connector body having a crimp collar at one end and a stepped bore with an entry opening at the other end. The stepped bore includes a first step which is abutted axially by a seal. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, a retaining element axially engages an inwardly extending radial surface in the bore and an annular groove in the tube. In accordance with the preferred embodiment, the retaining ring is integral with the tube and the seal is accomplished by a three lobed seal which is held in abutment with the first step by a Teflon.RTM. spacer, the Teflon.RTM. spacer being engaged by a bead on the formed metal tube.

6447024 - Spring retainer clip for a quick-connect coupling - Owned by Dana Corporation (Toledo, OH)

A spring retainer clip used with a quick-connect coupling for coupling a male connector having an outwardly extending protrusion in a bore of a female connector having an inwardly extending protrusion wherein the outwardly and inwardly extending protrusions are separated by an annular gap. The spring retainer clip comprises a ring having an axially extending collar for fitting around the male connector and a radially extending base unitary with the collar. A plurality of spring arms, unitary with and extending axially from the radially extending base, have transverse T-bars at free ends thereof adapted to extend through the gap between the protrusions and block movement of the protrusions past one another. Consequently, the male and female connectors cannot be separated if the width of the gap is substantially reduced. Tabs on the base between the spring arms extend axially to engage the bore in the female connector so as to stabilize the spring retainer clip within the bore when the T-bars are disposed in the gap and when the base and collar are disposed outside of the bore. In order to have an more robust configuration with a relatively thick collar and thick base, the spring retainer clip is molded of powdered steel.

5853204 - Means of coupling non-threaded connections - Owned by Proprietary Technology, Inc. (Bloomfield Hills, MI)

A conduit coupling comprises a male conduit, a mating female member. The male conduit is constrained as part of the conduit leading to the coupling. The male conduit includes a member for limiting the movement of the male conduit within the female member, means for sealing, and a retainer to couple the male conduit to the female member. The female member is defined as an open port, and it is possible to be no more in diameter and depth than a screw-in connection. The connection may be a quick-connect type (in which case a tool is required for disconnection) or a non-quick-connect type (in which case a tool is required for connection and disconnection). The male conduit may either be composed of a substantially non-elastic material such as a metal or a plastic or a substantially elastic material such as a soft plastic or a hard rubber. If composed of an elastic material, the bulged area is formed by use of a rigid liner having a formed bulged area that is inserted into the elastic conduit. Regardless of its material composition, the design of the present invention allows for rotational movement of the male conduit within the female member while restricting axial translation of the conduit within the member.

5707085 - Fluid coupling - Owned by General Motors Corporation (Detroit, MI)

A fluid coupling including a tube and a socket defined by a cylindrical counterbore in a housing. The cylindrical counterbore terminates at an annular seat and is interrupted by an annular first groove defining a first shoulder facing the annular seat and by an annular second groove defining a second shoulder facing the annular seat. The tube has an annular bead at one end which bears flush against the annular seat when the tube is plugged into the socket. A flexible retaining ring is mounted on the tube behind the bead. A plastic sleeve on the tube behind the flexible retaining ring has a cam at one end which radially expands the retaining ring to wedge the latter between the bead and the first shoulder. The retaining ring prevents dislodgment of the tube from the socket by reacting forces urging dislodgment substantially directly from the bead on the tube to the shoulder on the housing. A plurality of resilient barbs on the plastic sleeve lodge behind the second shoulder on the housing in the locking position of the sleeve to retain the sleeve in its locking position.
