A generator set including an internal combustion engine which drives an alternator or generator to generate electricity. The engine and the generator are air cooled by air driven by a fan along two parallel air cooling circuits through the generator set. The components of the set are enclosed in a two-piece housing or enclosure having two openings, an air inlet and an air outlet.
The compact electrical generator set has separate cooling airflows for the cylinder of the driving internal combustion engine, for the electrical generator, and for the crankcase of the internal combustion engine and the general interior of the enclosure of the electrical generator set. An optional fourth cooling airflow is dedicated to the oil cooler of the driving engine. Providing separate airflows allows to reduce the size of the enclosure. Noise generated by the engine exhaust is reduced by enveloping the exhaust gases with cooling air at the location were the exhaust gases exit the enclosure.
A generator structure is provided having an improved air flow arrangement. The generator structure includes an enclosure having an interior for receiving an engine and an alternator therein. A roof structure is positioned on the enclosure and includes an eave portion and an attic portion. The eave portion has an inlet which communicates with the ambient air external of the generator structure, an outlet communicating with the interior of the enclosure and input flow path therebetween. The attic portion has an inlet communicating with the interior of the enclosure, an outlet communicating with the ambient air external of the generator structure and an exit flow path therebetween. An air flow generator draws ambient air through the inlet flow path in the eave portion of the roof structure into the interior of the enclosure to cool the engine and the alternator and urges air from the interior of the enclosure through the exit flow path in the attic portion and out of the generator structure.
A number of embodiments of air cooled compact power supplies having air inlet and air outlet openings in the lower portion of the housing of the power supply. The interior of the power supply is baffled so that the air flowing through it must follow a serpentine path to prevent air entrained foreign materials from impinging upon the engine.
A compact portable electrical generator powered by a gas fueled internal combustion engine. A combined starter and generator is coupled to the engine for starting of the engine and for generating electrical power when the engine is running. The engine includes a lubricating system including lubricant that is supplied from a separately insertable lubricant cartridge and which is pumped by a hose compressing type of pump so as to insure adequate delivery of small amounts of lubricant regardless of the orientation of the unit and also so as to insure that lubricant cannot leak from the system when the unit is not being operated.
A small, mobile, tool caddy is provided, characterized by having an on-board generator so that the power tools carried in the caddy can be operated anywhere. The caddy comprises a wheeled frame with some type of superstructure which will hold the power tools and hand tools needed in a particular profession, with the preferred or illustrated embodiment being a utility box mounted in the frame. The utility box has tool mounting brackets on its sides, front, and top, and also mounts a collapsible cloth refust bag just behind the utility box.
