A vibration dampening device 10 is provided in the forearm 14 of a rifle 10 for engaging a cantilevered barrel 12 forward of the rifle action for dampening the vibration of the barrel as a bullet moves through the barrel to the muzzle. The vibration dampening device in the preferred embodiment includes an insert 44 that is mounted in a cavity 38 formed in the forearm 14. The insert includes a threaded bore 48 with a pressure screw 50 threadably mounted in the bore 48 in which the threaded screw has a pointed end 54 engaging the barrel at a selected point. A tool access aperture 58 extends through the forearm from the lower profile surface 16 in alignment with the threaded bore 48 for enabling a tool to be inserted through a tool access aperture 58 to engage the pressure screw 50 to rotate the pressure screw to the desired position. Preferably a locking means 60 is provided for locking the pressure screw 60 in place when the correct pressure is obtained.
A weapons barrel oscillation reduction apparatus includes a plurality of donut shaped rings or washers mounted on the muzzle end portion of a weapons barrel. The weapons barrel has breech and muzzles end portions and provides a machined ring carrying outer surface at the muzzle end portion. An annular shoulder at one end portion of the ring carrying portions acts as a stop for the plurality of rings mounted thereon. A retainer can be removably attached to the opposite end of the ring carrying surface. Upon assembly, the rings can move slightly in a longitudinal direction with respect to each other during a firing of a projectile from the weapons barrel, the weight of the rings and the slight movement of the rings function to reduce barrel oscillation.
A gun barrel control target sling is applied to firearms, such as rifles, pistols, shotguns, bb guns, crossbows, and other hand held firing devices, such as rocket launchers, bazookas, etc. The target sling includes a flexible adjustable strap which extends obliquely downward from a forward part of a gun barrel in the vicinity of where the barrel is held by the non-trigger activating hand down to the forearm of the same arm of the shooter, to provide a counteracting force upon the repulsive explosive upward force of the gun when shot. This sling strap generally is a linearly extending strap approximately 1/2 inch by 24 inches, preferably having adjustable members, such as a series of corresponding slots into which fasteners can be placed to maximize a taunt fit between the gun and the forearm of the user. The downward oblique tension of the sling strap provides a counteracting force to upward movement of the gun. The longitudinally extending sling member is a flexible material such as leather or woven plastic and includes a swivel end portion engagable with another portion adjacent to the barrel of the gun. The target sling reduces or eliminates the undesirable upward movement of the barrel of the gun, such that when the gun is gripped and fired the sling provides a force directed downwards away from the muzzle of the gun, wherein the barrel does not significantly move from the aimed position prior to firing. The forearm is placed in the loop of the slings at the distal end of the sling.
An apparatus or apparatus system for vibration control, by harmonic optimization technology, of vibrations in the cantilever or barrel, portion of a device from which projectile is fired or launched along the centerline of the cantilever. More particularly this invention relates to rifles, where the rifle barrel is a cantilever portion, and methods and apparatus for increasing the accuracy of firing projectiles. The invention is principally directed to a method and apparatus including a mass device affixed to a flexible cylinder extension at the muzzle end, inertial mass devices, having combustion pressure reduction features, affixed intermediate the muzzle end and the cartridge chamber, and a spring suspension system between barrel and rifle stock affixed proximal to the cartridge chamber. This system decreases the angular dispersion of barrel vibrations at the muzzle resulting from the firing of projectiles through such barrels.
