The chip cracking device is for engaging the lateral surfaces of a mounted computer chip. The device body has a pair of curved leg members having upper and lower portions with inwardly extending centrally disposed structures. A pivot member is operative on the inwardly disposed structures and an adjustable and hand operable knob is operative on the upper portions of the leg members. The chip cracking device further has opposing jaw members with lateral cutting edges of a predetermined slope so that the adjustable movement of the knob causes the cutting edges to crack and separate the chip body for subsequent removal from its mounting structure.
Shipping container latch pins are installed utilizing apparatus including o pivotally interconnected working members having opposite endportions. Motive means in the form of a bolt member are carried by one endportion of one working member and are operative to move the associated endportions of the working members away from each other, thereby moving the opposite endportions toward each other to press a pivot pin into a latch. The opposite endportions are biased away from each other by a spring, and include opposed pairs of open-ended slots for receiving the ends of the pivot pin.
A device for removing burrs created on the lateral edges of ice skate blades during sharpening is provided. The device consists includes cutting insert of extremely hard alloy having at least one angled cutting surface. The cutting insert is secured in a recess located along one of the edges of a substantially flat rigid housing member such that the portion of the cutting insert having the cutting surface extends out from the housing member. The housing member is connected to a substantially flat rigid base member such that a channel is defined by a portion of the base member, the end of the housing member having the recess, and the portion of the cutting insert which extends out from the housing member. The housing member and base member are connected such that they may pivot slightly relative to each other, but remain substantially parallel. A positioning screw is threaded through the portion of the base member which defines the channel such that tightening the positioning screw while an ice skate blade is disposed in the channel causes the housing member to pivot relative to the base member and become parallel therewith.
Apparatus and method is disclosed for removing an integrated circuit chip from a socket in a printed circuit board without damaging the chip or other components on the circuit board. The tool has a pair of arms slidably attached to a base. The lower ends of each arm have wedge-shaped teeth projecting inwardly toward the base. Components are provided within a cavity in the base for evenly and simultaneously moving the arms and teeth inwardly toward the base. The wedge-shaped teeth are thereby driven between the socket and chip so that the chip is forced away from the socket by the inclined upper surfaces of the teeth until the chip is disengaged from the socket. The even action of the teeth disengages the chip from the socket without bending pins of the chip or otherwise damaging the chip. Further, the tool does not rest upon or press against the circuit board as the chip is removed from the socket, so the tool removes the chip from the socket without damaging other components on the circuit board.
