A frontal calf exercising machine which utilizes a frame-journaled rotating foot-engaging assembly to apply resistive force couples to the tops of an operator's feet and bottoms of his heels through circular paths about the axes of rotation of his ankle joints. This frame-journaled rotating foot-engaging assembly is mechanically linked to a frame-journaled rotating weight arm, which, together with the frame of the machine and the connecting link joining them, form a simple planar double-rocking-lever four-bar linkage which acts in conjunction with the rotating weight arm to vary the resistive force applied to the dorsi-flexing muscles of the operator's feet through body-machine contact between the operator's feet and the rotating foot-engaging assembly throughout the range of the exercise movement.
A leg exercise machine includes a frame having a seat connected thereto for supporting a user in a seated position thereon. A foot engaging member is adapted for engaging the feet of a user and receiving force from the user leg. The foot engaging member is pivotally mounted on the frame by a four-bar linkage which includes first and second lever arms pivotably mounted on the frame. The pivotal mounting of the lever arms provides for back and forth movement along a path of travel and about an instantaneous (changing) axis of rotation for changing the angle of inclination of the foot engaging member so that a force substantially normal to the foot engaging member is directed substantially up the leg and tibia during corresponding movement of the user. The second lever arm is operatively connected to a weight stack for transmitting the pivotal back and forth movement of the leg engaging member to movement of the weight stack to thereby exercise the legs of a user.
An exercise machine for exercising the calf muscles of a seated exerciser includes: a frame configured to rest on an underlying surface; a seat assembly mounted on the frame on which the exerciser sits; a movement arm pivotally interconnected with the frame forwardly of the seat assembly; a heel pad mounted on the frame forwardly of the seat assembly and configured to receive the heel of the exerciser; a trailing link pivotally attached to the movement arm; a foot engagement member attached to the trailing link such that the foot engagement member is positioned above and forwardly of the heel pad, the foot engagement member having an engagement surface configured to receive a portion of the sole of the foot of the exerciser; and a resistance-imparting unit interconnected with the movement arm. The movement arm is movable by the exerciser between a flexed position, in which the sole of the foot of the exerciser engages the engagement surface of the foot engagement member as the heel of the exerciser engages the heel pad, such that the foot is generally perpendicular to the shin of exerciser, and an extended position, in which the foot points away from the shin as the sole of the foot of the exerciser remains engaged with the engagement surface of the foot engagement member and the heel remains engaged with the heel pad.
A machine for exercising muscles of the human body which includes a movement arm pivotable about a horizontal axis by the user against a resistance provided by a weight stack. A drive shaft is connected to the movement arm and extends vertically downwardly below the weight stack where it is connected to a lever which in turn is connected to the lower end of a pin included in the weight stack. When the movement arm is rotated and pivoted in one direction it will move the drive shaft and the lever to raise the pin in the weight stack. The weight stack includes upper and lower stacks of weights independently connectable to the stack pin.
An exercise device for use by an exerciser in exercising his back muscles includes a frame, waist support, leg stop, and weight carriage. The frame comprises a ground contacting base and front and rear frame members. The waist support is located on top of the front frame member and the leg stop is located on the bottom of the rear frame member. The weight carriage is rotatably mounted to the frame, and includes a carriage frame, weight supporting bars, and a handle. The carriage is movable between a first resting position in which it extends downwardly from the front frame member to a second extended position in which it extends generally horizontally out from the front frame member.
A storable exercise device that can be used to perform a plurality of exercises is described. This device comprises a long shaft having a hingeable element on one end and a means for holding a plurality of weights on the other end. In between are, in order, a seat, a foldable knee lifting device, a foot element, a hooking means and a movable foot rest. This exercise device is particularly useful for exercising the calf muscles of the user. However, a plurality of other devices can be attached to the hooking element that is primarily used to store the device in an upright position against a wall. These other devices can be used to exercise shoulder, back, neck, chest and arm muscles, for example. Since the exercise device of this invention is simple, easy to assemble, storable and relatively inexpensive to manufacture, it has great utility over elements available in the prior art.
