Abstract
A positive-acting photosensitive proofing element is constructed with a thermal adhesive layer having a Tg between 45.degree. C. and 60.degree. C., said adhesive comprising a polymer or copolymer derived from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and 0.5 to 40% by weight of a polyvinyl ether polymer as a flexibilizer.

5935759 - Method for making a multicolor image and photosensitive material therefor - Owned by AGFA-Gevaert (Mortsel,BE)

Disclosed are a photosensitive material and a corresponding method for making colour-proofing sheets for multicolour printing, comprising A) a transparent flexible polymeric support sheet, B) a photopolymerizable layer comprising B1) a polymeric binder, B2) a free-radically polymerizable compound, B3) a photoinitiator, and B4) a dye or pigment in a primary colour of multicolour printing, and C) a thermoplastic adhesion-promoting layer on the photosensitive layer, with a coating weight of 2 to 30 g/m.sup.2, characterized in that the thermoplastic adhesion-promoting layer includes 0.05 to 2.5% by weight of a colourless, transparent or white pigment having an average particle size which is less than 1% of the layer thickness and does not exceed 0.05 .mu.m and the ready-produced material has a slip friction coefficient of <0.5.

5547811 - Photosensitive material and method for making color-proofing films - Owned by Agfa-Gevaert AG (Leverkusen,DE)

A photosensitive material for making color-proofing films for multicolor printing is described, with A) a transparent flexible support of plastic, B) a photopolymerizable layer on (A) which contains B1) a polymeric binder, B2) a compound polymerizable by a free-radical mechanism, B3) a compound which is capable of initiating the polymerization of (B2) under the action of actinic light and B4) a dye or a color pigment in a primary color of the multicolor print, and C) a thermoplastic adhesive layer which comprises at least one polymer which contains units (C1) with aliphatic side chains having at least 5 carbon atoms. The material is processed by laminating to an image receptor sheet, exposure and peeling apart of support and image receptor sheet, the unexposed layer areas remaining together with the adhesive layer on the image receptor sheet. These steps are repeated with at least one further image in primary colors. The material provides for a reduction of the background stain in the non-image areas.

5527654 - Process for the production of a color image utilizing transferred white pigment layer - Owned by Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft (Frankfurt,DE)

A process for the production of a color image is described, in which a photosensitive material that has a temporary support film, a colored photosensitive layer and an adhesion-promoting layer that can be activated by heat is laminated at high temperature and under pressure with an image-receiving material which carries, on a support, a pigment layer containing a white pigment. The photosensitive layer is exposed imagewise and developed to produce an image, the temporary support film is peeled off from the image-receiving material before or after exposure to light and, if required, these steps are repeated with at least one further photosensitive material whose colored layer has another color to produce a multi-colored image. The process gives color images having a smaller dot enlargement compared with a halftone original and is particularly suitable for the color testing of copy for multicolor printing.

5443939 - Light-sensitive material for producing a multi-color image - Owned by Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft (Frankfurt am Main,DE)

A light-sensitive material for producing color-test films for multi-color printing is disclosed. The material has (A) a transparent flexible base film of a plastic, (B) a photopolymerizable layer containing (B1) a polymeric binder, (B2) a compound polymerizable by a free-radical mechanism, (B3) a compound capable of initiating the polymerization of (B2) under the action of actinic light, and (B4) a dye or a colored pigment in one of the basic colors of multi-color printing, and (C) a thermoplastic adhesion layer on the light-sensitive layer is described. A polymer of a vinyl alkyl ether is present in at least one of the layers (B) and (C). The material is processed by lamination to an image-receiving material, with subsequent exposure and peeling-apart of base film and image-receiving material. The unexposed layer areas remain together with the adhesion layer on the image-receiving material. These steps are repeated with at least one further part-color image. The material gives improved image resolution and has improved storage stability in the unexposed state.

A photosensitive material for making color-proofing films for multicolor printing is described, with A) a transparent flexible support of plastic, B) a photopolymerizable layer on (A) which contains B1) a polymeric binder, B2) a compound polymerizable by a flee-radical mechanism, B3) a compound which is capable of initiating the polymerization of (B2) under the action of actinic light and B4) a dye or a color pigment in a primary color of the multicolor print, and C) a thermoplastic adhesive layer which comprises at least one polymer which contains units (C1) with aliphatic side chains having at least 5 carbon atoms.
