Abstract
A personal computer/electronic typesetter interface includes an expansion board suitable for insertion into each of a plurality of personal computers functioning as page composition work stations, wherein one or more of the work stations is also connected for communication to an electronic typesetting machine. The expansion board includes logic for converting the data obtained in a preselected file from the coded format generated by the page composition work station to a second coded format recognized by the electronic typesetter to which the file is directed for output. The interface of the present invention also includes logic for continuously monitoring the status of the files in each of the queues, logic for interrupting the normal operation of the work station and displaying the first and second queues in response to a preselected command, and logic for allowing the operator to perform other file routing and queuing operations in response to other preselected commands. The interface of the present invention also preferably includes an offsite automatic initialization system which automatically downloads a pre-boot program into the memory on the expansion board, allowing the expansion board to initialize without the need for storing an initialization program in non-volatile memory on the expansion board.

7552319 - Methods and apparatus to manage memory access - Owned by Intel Corporation (Santa Clara, CA)

An example method involves detecting a memory relocation process and disabling memory access to a memory block in response to detecting the memory relocation process. The example method also involves determining an absolute address value associated with the memory block and storing the absolute address value.

5629846 - Method and system for document translation and extraction - Owned by General Electric Company (Schenectady, NY)

A method and system for translating an electronic document from one format to an electronic document in a second format. Selected portions from a source document are extracted and transformed into the format of a target document. A translation rule set is then deduced from the extracted portions and the transformed portions. The translation rule set is then applied to the source document, producing a first draft. If the translation rule set is unable to translate a portion from the source document, then the user is notified of the untranslatable portion. The user then provides examples of how the untranslatable portion should be translated into the format of the target document. The translation rule set is then modified in accordance with the examples. Next, the modified translation rule set is applied to the source document, producing a second draft. The above steps are repeated until the source document has been completely translated into the format of the target document or until the user is satisfied with the translation.

7028176 - System for booting distributed processor architecture by loading boot software via ethernet to sub-unit after main unit is booted and released the sub-unit from reset - Owned by Nokia Corporation (Espoo,FI)

The invention relates to a base station comprising distributed processor architecture and a method of booting distributed processor architecture of a base station. The distributed processor architecture of the base station comprises a main unit and at least one sub-unit connected to it via the Ethernet. In the method, the main unit is booted, which main unit releases the sub-unit from reset. The control logic of the sub-unit reads the initialization parameters of the MAC controller stored in the read-only memory of the sub-unit. The MAC controller is initialized by using the read initialization parameters, after which boot software is loaded to the sub-unit via the Ethernet. Finally, the sub-unit is booted with the loaded boot software.

6564318 - Method and apparatus for execution of an application during computer pre-boot operation and post-boot under normal OS control - Owned by Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (San Jose, CA)

A special BIOS includes a program application manager (PAM) and a file system structure (FSS) that points to addresses on a mass storage device (MSD) for an application and at least one presentation playable by the application. The BIOS calls the PAM on startup, and the PAM checks for an application, and finding same loads and executes the application before loading the operating system (OS). In a preferred embodiment the FSS is programmable, and the system after OS boot is started checks MSD devices for new FSS parameters, and finding same loads the parameters to the programmable FSS of the BIOS. In some embodiments parameters may cause presentations and associated applications to be accessed and executed in a rotating or serial order. In other embodiments the BIOS represents its own address space in RAM to the OS at OS boot to include the application, enabling the application to continue to execute during OS boot. In further embodiments a special driver is executed after OS boot to bind the application into the OS configuration so the application may continue to operate in a stable manner.

5555374 - System and method for coupling a plurality of peripheral devices to a host computer through a host computer parallel port - Owned by Systech Computer Corporation (San Diego, CA)

A host computer is coupled to a plurality of peripheral devices through a single parallel port in the host computer. A terminal adapter connected to the host computer parallel port includes a plurality of ports for connection to the plurality of peripheral devices. A host interface memory in the host computer receives control structures containing control and status information and data for peripheral device operation from device drivers in the host computer. The host interface memory buffers the control structures and a port interface operating through the host and terminal adapter parallel ports transports the control structures from the host computer to the terminal adapter. In the terminal adapter, a terminal adapter interface memory holds a mirror image of the contents of the host memory and the terminal interface accesses the terminal adapter interface memory to obtain control data structures which are used to operate the peripheral devices.
