Abstract
A fog producing apparatus for suspending fine particles of water in air in an economical and reliable manner. Ultrasonic transducers potted in an electrically insulative and liquidproof material are placed in a container in which a predetermined water level is maintained by a float and valve device. Alternatively, the potted transducers are suspended below floats floating on the surface of the water whereby the critical water depth over the transducers is automatically maintained. In addition compressed air is conducted through the emanating fog plumes to provide a more homogeneous and dispersed fog effect. A copious amount of fog can thereby be efficiently and reliably produced to create theatrical or visual effects.

5300260 - Fog generator - Owned by Shira Aeroponics (1984) Ltd. (Rehovot,IL)

A fog generator includes a reservoir for a liquid to be atomized, a plurality of ultrasonic transducers disposed in spaced relation to each other in the reservoir so as to be submerged within the liquid therein, a gas inlet duct extending through the reservoir, and a dome-shaped deflector overlying, and of larger diameter than, the gas inlet duct to deflect the gas flowing through the duct back towards the reservor to pick up liquid atomized by the transducers.

5136804 - System for germination, propagation and growing plants in ultrasonic-fog conditions (aeroponics) - Owned by Shira Aeroponics (1984) Ltd. (Rehovot,IL)

An apparatus for aeroponically growing plants, having a housing including a partition defining an upper compartment and a lower compartment, the partition including means of supporting a plurality of plants. The apparatus comprises a fog generator including a container for receiving a quantity of water, and a ultrasonic transducer located within the container to be immersed in the water when received therein, and thereby to generate a fog in the upper end of the container. Also having conduit means to direct the generated fog to the compartments of the housing.

5163617 - Low-cost ultrasonic nebulizer for atomic spectrometry - Owned by The United States of America as represented by the Department of Health (Washington, DC)

An ultrasonic humidifier is converted to a low-cost, geyser-type ultrasonic nebulizer for atomic spectrometry. The device may be operated in either a batch or the continuous mode. Long-term precisions of 1-2% were achieved for 14 elements. For a sample uptake rate of 1 mL/min., detection limits measured with the geyser-type ultrasonic nebulizer were superior to those obtained with a PN by a factor of 8-50. While detection limits measured utilizing the converted nebulizer of the present invention were similar to those reported for commercial ultrasonic nebulizers, the converted nebulizer of the present invention is much less expensive.

5676886 - Low lying fog simulator and method - Owned by Sigma Services, Inc. (Plant City, FL)

A low lying fog simulator including a liquid carbon dioxide source and a cooler to be used with a smoke generating machine. The liquid carbon dioxide is forced through an expansion valve to provide a cold carbon dioxide gas pocket through which the smoke passes prior to being dispersed into the ambient. When dispersed into the ambient the cold smoke/carbon dioxide mixture falls toward a level near the earth's surface simulating a low lying fog.

5653919 - Humidification system - Owned by Morgan & White, Ltd. (Lewisberry, PA)

A humidifier for adding liquid from a mist source to a gas flow improves the evaporation of the liquid by reducing the quantity of larger water droplets from the mist introduced to the gas flow by slowing a diverted portion of the gas flow, routing the gas flow through a partitioned chamber and deflecting the gas flow from direct impact on the mist while catching splattered liquid droplets within the humidifier.
