An image reading device includes a reading window which an article is set to face, a main light source for emitting first light beam which is emitted via the reading window to a limited external space to scan the article, and an image detection circuit for reading a bar code formed on an article from the first light beam reflected on the article placed within the limited external space and has traveled via the reading window. The image reading device further includes a light source control circuit for detecting that no article is set within the limited external space, to thereby inhibit the activation of the main light source.
The present invention relates to a bar code reading apparatus that is useful for recognizing by human eyes whether a light beam is being projected onto a bar code symbol. The bar code reading apparatus contains a first and second light source to radiate a first ray and a second visible ray, respectively. The second visible ray has higher visibility than first light beam for human eyes. As a result, an operator can easily recognize whether the light beams are projected onto a bar code symbol. Another bar code reading apparatus contains first and second photo detectors for receiving a first and a second reflected beam, respectively. With this arrangement two different bar code symbols can be simultaneously read by the bar code reading apparatus.
The present invention comprises a device for reading a code on an article, comprising: a housing provided with at least two windows for passage of radiation which are disposed at a relative mutual angle; radiation source means for transmitting radiation to the article, which radiation source means are arranged in the housing and comprise at least two separate radiation sources; a rotatable polygonal mirror for reflecting radiation coming from the radiation source means; a number of fixedly disposed mirrors for reflecting through the respective windows the radiation coming from the polygonal mirror; and detection means for detecting the radiation scattered by the code.
An optical reader can include an image sensor. In one embodiment an optical reader can be configured to have different operating modes, the different operating modes optimizing the reader for reading different indicia. In another embodiment an optical reader can comprise a multiple color emitting light source. In another embodiment an optical reader can be provided in a specialized form factor including an enlarged head portion and an elongated body portion extending from the head portion.
An imaging module can comprise an image sensor and first and second circuit boards. A support assembly can also be included in the imaging module. Further included in the imaging module can be a support post.
An indicia decoding device can have an image sensor and a laser diode assembly configured to project laser light onto a substrate. When a trigger signal is received by the indicia decoding device, the device can calculate a delay and enable the laser diode assembly if a delay threshold is satisfied. The indicia decoding device, in one embodiment, can include a hand held housing and an imaging module carrying the image sensor.
