Disclosed are emulsion polish compositions comprising a copolymeric siloxane selected from the group consisting of a poly(dimethyl)-co-poly(methylalkyl) siloxane polymer, a poly(dimethyl)-co-poly(methyl, oxygen-containing) siloxane polymer, and combinations thereof. The poly(dimethyl)-co-poly(methylalkyl) siloxane copolymer has the formula ##STR1## wherein "A" is an alkyl radical having 10-20 carbon atoms, and wherein "w" is 70-91 mole percent and "x" is 9-30 mole percent. The poly(dimethyl)-co-poly(methyl, oxygen-containing) siloxane copolymer has the formula ##STR2## wherein "B" is (CH.sub.2).sub.i (L)(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n R, wherein "i" is an integer from 3 to 10 inclusive, wherein "L" is either --O-- or --COO--, wherein "n" is either zero or an integer from 1 to 3 inclusive, wherein "R" is --H, --CH.sub.3, or --C.sub.2 H.sub.5, and wherein "y" is 62-92 mole percent and "z" is 8-38 mole percent.
An emulsion polish that includes a non-volatile silicone fluid, a liquid polyether siloxane immiscible with water and the silicon fluid, and a surfactant to stabilize the emulsion. The polyether siloxane has a specific gravity less than that of the silicone fluid. A process for treating a hard surface with such a polish is also disclosed.
A furniture surface having a coating consisting of a bottom layer comprising a silicone oil adjacent to the furniture surface and a top layer comprising an oil having a specific gravity less than the silicone oil in the bottom layer and a water repelling film-forming fluorinated polymer. The coating may consist of a bottom layer comprising a silicone oil adjacent to the furniture surface, an intermediate layer comprising a water repelling film-forming fluorinated polymer, and a top layer comprising an oil having a specific gravity less than the silicone oil in the bottom layer. The coating may also consist of a bottom layer comprising a silicone oil adjacent to the furniture surface, an intermediate layer comprising an oil having a specific gravity less than the silicone oil in the bottom layer, and a top layer comprising a water repelling film-forming fluorinated polymer.
A polish composition includes a siloxane polymer of the formula ##STR00001## wherein each group A independently represents an alkyl group having up to 6 carbon atoms, M represents an alkyl group having up to 6 carbon atoms and Q represents an alkyl group, wherein a proportion of the groups Q have more than 20 carbon atoms and the remainder have up to 6 carbon atoms, and wherein "x" is an integer selected to give a molecular weight of the polymer III in the range 3,000 30,000. In prior polish compositions the radical "Q" have been of shorter chain lengths. We have found that a longer chain length promotes reduced smearing.
The invention comprehends a silicone emulsion composition containing a nonionic polydimethyl siloxane emulsion, a cationic amodimethicone emulsion, and a cationic aminofunctional silicone emulsion. When the silicone composition is sprayed onto a painted metal surface and wiped with an absorbent cloth, a protective, high-gloss, substantive protective layer of silicone is deposited on the surface.
