A high pressure discharge lamp has a discharge vessel with a closure and an electrode lead-through with an electrode rod mounted thereon. The closure has an aperture therethrough with a predetermined diameter. The lead-through comprises an elongated cylindrical member dimensioned to fit closely within the aperture through the closure, and a limiting means for limiting the distance the lead-through extends in the discharge envelope. The lead-through is crimped at a predetermined location on its outer surface, forming the limiting means including a plurality of alternating contractions and expansions. The expansions form protuberances having a diameter greater than the predetermined inner diameter of the aperture. The protuberances limit the extent of insertion of the lead-through into the discharge envelope, align the lead-through on the closure with a centerline attitude, and determine the distance the electrode rod is inserted within the discharge vessel.
An electrode mount with a stationary electrode and a movable electrode facing each other, the movable electrode including a snap-acting and thermosensitive element which comes into contact with and out of contact with the stationary electrode, fixed thereon by a frit glass bead is encased in a glass envelope having an opening at one end thereof. A sealed portion for sealing the frit glass bead and the opening of the glass envelope is formed by melting frit glass therebetween.
Variable backspace in electrode assemblies for high pressure sodium lamps is achieved by employing a hollow electrode base which has one end formed to frictionally engage an electrode, which electrode includes a solid core having a coil about one end thereof. The solid core is inserted into the electrode base a given distance and is maintained in this position by friction until welding is accomplished. The electrode base is provided with a positioning ring which is formed at the time the base is first formed. The electrode assemblies can be utilized with lamps having different arc lengths while using arc tubes having the same size.

A universal ski boot heating system, includes a boot assembly and a power pack assembly. The boot assembly employs a heating element disposable in a ski boot and electrically connected to a boot anchor secured to the exterior of the boot. The power pack assembly includes an elecrical energy source and means for engaging the boot anchor to permit selective contact between the energy source and the heating element through rotation of the power pack assembly when engaged with the boot anchor.
