Abstract
A fishing weight comprising a bullet shaped lead body portion having an axial bore therethrough, an enlarged recess formed in one end of the body portion, a flexible, rubbery material substantially filling the recess, a cavity formed in the rubbery material in the recess, the cavity opening into the axial bore and having another opening extending outwardly opposite the axial bore for receiving the eye of a fishhook, the other opening being of a smaller size than the cavity and releasably retaining the fishhook eye therein until a force is exerted upon the fishhook for withdrawing the fishhook therefrom; a fishing lure includig the improved weight; and a method for releasably affixing a fishing weight to the eye of the fishhook.

5042190 - Fly-fishing strike indicator

A fly-fishing strike indicator which is moveable on a fishing leader but at the same time can maintain its position on the leader when a fly is cast. The indicator is constructed by forming a knot of surgical tubing on the leader. The knot being formed by passing one end of a leader through the center passage of a small section of surgical tubing and looping the leader outside the tubing and then reinserting the leader through the center passage of the tube in the same direction as before. As the leader is pulled taut, the resilient tube is deformed into a knot wherein the leaders runs nearly straight through the knot. Further, a cover of thermoplastic, heat shrinkable tubing is slid over the knot to surround the leader and the knot. The ends of the thermoplastic cover are then heated to constrict the ends loosely about the leader and to form an air pocket between the leader and cover.

5261182 - Fishing lure - Owned by Blue Fox Tackle Co. (Cambridge, MN)

A fishing lure including three components, a base, a skirt, and a nose. The base has a fishing line attachment, a spacer portion connected at a first end to the fishing line attachment, a bulbus body connected at a first side to an opposite end of the spacer portion, and a hook having a shank, a reverse bend and a point extending from a second side of the body. The skirt component is carried by the spacer portion between the bulbus body and the fishing line attachment. The nose, releasably engages the base adjacent the fishing line attachment. The nose includes a bore capable of passing fishing line and means for protectively covering the fishing line attachment. The lure also has means for suppressing catching upon weeds. The body and spacer portion are cast of lead upon the shank of the hook. The body shape is such that it provides an offset center of gravity relative to the hook shank. The body includes a pair of bilaterally symmetrical wing surfaces which facilitate oriented fall of the lure through water. The weedless features of the preferred embodiment are further enhanced by both the nose and the skirt.

5386658 - Bead with dual-diameter bore - Owned by Spirit River, Inc. (Roseburg, OR)

A metallic bead of appropriate size and shape for use as the head of a fishing fly has a bore for accepting a hook shank. The bore is of a smaller diameter at the front end and of a larger diameter at the rear end for approximately two thirds of the length of the bead. The bead is cut off at each end so that the overall length of the bore is 85% of the major diameter of the bead itself.

5347744 - Fishing lure

A fishing lure comprising a dense body portion having a bore therethrough; a recess formed in the body portion, the recess communicating with the bore, the recess sized to accommodate and receive the eyelet of a hook, said recess having non-resilient walls and a mouth; and a resilient obstruction adjacent the mouth of the recess, the resilient obstruction inhibiting passage of the eyelet of the hook until a force is exerted upon the eyelet to cause the resilient obstruction to yield and allow passage of the eyelet. Additionally, a fishing lure assembly, for ordered array upon an fishing line terminating at an eyelet of a fishhook, the lure including a forward piece having a bore and a rearward directed semi-spherical recess; a generally spherical bead having a bore and a spherical radius slightly smaller than the radius of the recess of the first piece; and a rearward piece having a bore, a forward directed semi-spherical recess of a radius slightly greater than the bead, and having rearward directed means for releaseably holding a fishhook eyelet.

5490345 - Sinker apparatus for Texas rig fishing lure

A fishing sinker apparatus is disclosed for a Texas rig-type fishing lure wherein an eyelet portion of a hook at the end of a fishing line is embedded proximate a head of the lure and a pointed portion of the hook is embedded proximate a tail of the lure. The apparatus includes a convexly tapered weight member having a narrow leading portion, a broad trailing portion and an axial opening that extends through the weight from the leading portion to the trailing portion. There is a screw element attached to the trailing portion of the weight member. The screw element includes a central shaft portion that extends axially from the trailing portion and an elongate thread wound about the shaft portion and interengaging the shaft portion for a majority of the length of the thread. An elongate conduit extends axially through the central shaft and into the axial opening of the weight member for slidably receiving the fishing line and anchoring the screw element to the weight member. The screw element has a length and diameter that permit the screw element and the weight member to release from the lure when the eyelet of the hook is pulled against the screw such that the sinker is slidable along the fishing line.
