Abstract
A signature formed as a plurality of layers of paper sheets and having a fold line is provided along the fold line with a line of spaced perforations. This line of perforations is formed by a signature perforating knife which has a plurality of spaced perforating teeth. The folded signature avoids creases and bulges during stacking of plural signatures.

6053684 - Folded product - Owned by Koenig & Bauer-Albert Aktiengesellschaft (Wurzburg,DE)

A method and a device for the production of folded products utilizes a row of folding jaws and a row of counter folding jaws. A signature to be cross-folded is inserted between the jaws by a folding blade. The folding jaws and counter folding jaws form a line of embossing on the folded signatures adjacent the transverse fold line. The resultant folded item has an increased moment of resistance in the direction of transport.

5240755 - Perforated label web and method of producing such web - Owned by Zimmer Industries, Inc. (Hawthorne, NJ)

Labels and a label web without a carrier web which labels are formed by perforating a web with a perforator having 20-120 spaced teeth per inch and which provide ties securing the label to the web which have a maximum dimension in the direction of the label periphery of 0.007 inch so that when the label is removed from the web the ties are not visible to the naked eye. At least 50% of the web is perforated along the label periphery to ease removal of the labels from the web, but a sufficient number of ties is retained, depending on the strength of the web material and the pulling force required, to retain the label attached to the web during pulling of the web for further processing.

5524930 - Perforating blade and signature - Owned by Sure Perf, Inc. (Austin, TX)

A perforating blade and signature having a unitary blade (12) that is very narrow in width in proportion to its length, with a cutting edge (16) along one longitudinal side. The cutting edge (16) comprises a combination of a number of spaced-apart straight (12) and angled (20) sections arranged so that the angled sections (20) angle inwardly toward a center point (18) on the perforating blade and along a single side of the cutting edge only. In one embodiment the pattern starts with a single long cutting tooth in the center (18) of the blade followed outwardly from the center on both sides with a repeating pattern of three angled teeth followed by a short straight tooth and so forth. The angled teeth (20) are all angled to the same side of the blade so that the resulting fold line (26) has cuts only on one side (29) of the fold line. The angled cuts result in ties (28) that twist easily, and that, therefore, result in fold lines (26) that fold cleanly without gusseting or binding. The angled cuts and teeth can be straight or curved so long as they are angled toward the approximate middle of the blade and are formed on one side of the blade only.

6454692 - Method and device for perforating material webs - Owned by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg,DE)

A method of producing folds on signatures separated from a material web stream, including a multilayer material web stream, includes the method steps of disposing two cutting and perforating devices, respectively, in a web travel direction; cutting the material web stream in the region of a first longitudinal fold by a first cutting device assigned to the fold; perforating/cutting the material web stream in the region of a crossfold forming material bridges; and providing that at least one of the cutting or perforating tools is adjustable in relation to the material web stream. The invention also includes a device for performing the method; and a folder, and more specifically, a pinless folder having the device.

6994010 - Cutting tool for a punching machine, method for producing said cutting tool and punching machine - Owned by Peach Office Products Ltd. (Zurich,CH)

A cutting tool (1) for a punching machine has a punching body (8) on which a plurality of punching tool elements (5) which are located parallel to each other are provided. The puncing body (8) consists of a double-layered metal sheet (2, 12). Essentially longitudinal openings (7) are advantageously punched out of a sheet metal plate (2 and 12) symmetrically about an axis (6), these longitudinal openings (7) being situated parallel to each other, respectively. The sheet metal plate (2, 12) is then folded about the axis (6) in order to form the double-layered punching tool elements (5). This allows the use of more simple punching machines and enables a punching machine to be produced from just a few individual parts.
