Abstract
A drive frame (1) for a scraper chain conveyor comprises a pair of spaced-apart parallel sidewalls (2), interconnected by a cross-member (3) welded to both sidewalls (2); a sprocket barrel assembly (18) provided with at least one sprocket ring (19) adapted to engage at least one endless chain assembly of the conveyor; mutually engageable seating surfaces (23, 5) provided respectively on the sprocket barrel assembly (18) and on the cross-member (3); at least one abutment face (7) provided on the cross-member (3); at least one abutment face (26) provided on the sprocket barrel assembly (18) in close but spaced proximity from the cross-member abutment face (7) to define at least one upwardly open pocket (27); and a releasable fastener (28) for securing the sprocket barrel assembly (18) to the drive frame (1) via the seating surfaces (5, 23) that is lowerable into, and raisable from, the pocket (27), and that is also actuable and accessible from above.

6227354 - Conveyor shaft support assembly - Owned by Longwall-Associates, Inc. (Chilhowie, VA)

An assembly for supporting the drive or idler shaft in an endless conveyor, such as an armored face or scraper chain conveyor, is provided. The assembly includes a pair of annular bearing housings having central bores for receiving the ends of an idler shaft carrying dual spaced inner, or single twin inboard sprocket rings. Each bearing housing includes a relatively wide integral support arm for insertion into a corresponding C-shaped bracket attached to the end face of the conveyor frame. Fasteners, such as dowel pins and bolts, are inserted into aligned vertical apertures formed in the cooperating support arms and brackets. In the mounted position, the bearing housings fully support the shaft ends independent of the conveyor frame sidewalls and thus are useful with conveyors having sidewalls spaced any distance apart. The independence provided by moving the bearing housings inward permits a shorter and consequently lighter shaft to be used and one that is less prone to deflection. Mounting the ends of the shaft in spaced bearing housings securely held in individual brackets reduces vibration, deflection and damage from shock loading. Positioning the bearings at the ends of the shaft also provides resistance for the twisting forces created by the heavy gauge chains, especially where dual spaced sprockets are present. Caps attached to the outer side of each bearing housing protect the rotating shaft ends and contain any lubricant present in the bores. Passages formed in the housings allow the bearings to be lubricated.

5232408 - Flexible tape drive system - Owned by E. F. Bavis & Associates, Inc. (Maineville, OH)

A flexible tape drive system of the type having a flexible yet relatively longitudinally rigid perforated drive tape which is reciprocated by a toothed cog drive arrangement to provide both push and pull driving power. The drive system includes a substantially circular cog wheel having an outer base surface of a predetermined diameter and a plurality of radially extending cog teeth spaced about the periphery of the outer base surface. A cog wheel surround includes an outer guide track having an inner cog race with an inner surface of a diameter slightly larger than the base diameter of the cog and spaced substantially parallel therewith. A pair of oppositely disposed peeler tips are situated adjacent the top of the cog wheel surround between the outer guide track and the cog wheel, each including a peeler edge which has an arcuate inner face extending from the edge at a non-parallel orientation relatively to the base surface of the cog. In this way, the peeler edge of each of the peeler tips is inwardly disposed toward the base surface to more effectively peel the drive tape away from the cog wheel even under conditions of high compression force on the flexible tape and/or at increased speeds of rotation. The inwardly disposed orientation can be accomplished by locating the peeler edges on a radius substantially equal to the radius of the outer base surface but having an offset point of origin, or by providing the peeler edges on a non-concentric and smaller radius.

7383941 - Bolt diversion system - Owned by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

A bolt diversion system for use with a conveyor system having a conveyor chain for towing a movable cart. The bolt diversion system is used to prevent debris from interfering with operation of the conveyor chain. The bolt diversion system includes first and second rails, disposed vertically and spaced from one another so as to define a slot therebetween. Lower faces of the rails are disposed close to and in overlapping relationship to upper lateral edges of the chain so as to define a small gap between the first and second rails and the conveyor chain that is smaller than the debris, so that the debris remains in the slot and on top of the conveyor chain. The debris is conveyed by the conveyor chain to a debris removal zone in which a wiper arm assembly is provided. The wiper arm assembly includes a wiper arm that extends across a top of the conveyor chain. The wiper arm knocks debris off of the conveyor chain and into a debris collection container.
