A three component, self adjustable pillow is provided to support and align a user's head, and shoulders. The pillow comprises a head support base containing a soft fill such as polyester, nylon, chip foam, etc., and shaped as a round or elliptical, solid cylinder. A cloth attachment piece is connected along one of its sides to the pillow by sewing along the pillow length. A circular-shaped, cylindrical neck support is sewn onto the cloth attachment along its remaining free side, and this enables the neck support to rest on the head support base for adjustable movement by the user. Preferably, the user's shoulders are supported on the head support base and located somewhere between the edge of the support base and the base of the neck support, and usually at the edge of the support base. The soft fill construction of the head support base enables inward forces of compression produced by the user's shoulders to be transmitted into the pillow, and this causes these compressive forces to be directed along the head support base and upwards to the neck support. These upward forces will enhance the support function of the neck support. Since the user's head will rest on the portion of the support base beyond the neck support, the overall effect of the adjustable pillow produces both an alignment and support of the user's shoulders, neck, and head, and this in turn reduces the tendency to stiffness, discomfort, chronic muscle strain, and aching in the neck and shoulder area.
A recreation pillow includes a resilient foam rubber pillow having an elliptical shape. A slit is formed in the pillow, and the slit extends inwardly from the surface. The slit defines opposed walls that are normally juxtaposed, with the pillow being deformable such that the walls are distanced from each other and small items such as room keys can be placed between the walls. When the pillow is released, the items are held between the walls. The pillow is enclosed in a waterproof sleeve, and is ideal for beach use for both lying on and for carrying small items. Alternatively, the pillow can be hollow and can be made of relatively hard plastic or rubber.
Described is a low flammability pillow comprising a cushioning core and a cover separable therefrom, wherein the cushioning core comprises a binder-consolidated nonwoven block from 5 to 15 cm in thickness and from 700 to 3000 g/m.sup.2 in basis weight comprising fibers or filaments having a linear density from 3 to 30 dtex and the cover is a pocket-shaped, closable casing comprising a textile sheet material comprising or consisting of woven or knitted fabric, the fibers and filaments of the cushioning core and of the casing comprising flame resistant polyester. Further, a process is described for the production of the low flammability pillow.
A pillow for alleviating lower back pain includes an under-knee portion, which holds an individual's knee in flexion when he is lying on his back, and a between-knee portion, which holds the individual's knees a spaced distance apart when he is lying on his side. The under-knee and between-knee portions are connected by a flexible web that permits automatic adjustment of the relative positions of the two pillow portions to accommodate different sizes of users.
A support for aligning the head and torso. The support includes at least one first bladder containing a fluid. The first bladder is communicatively coupled to at least one second-bladder containing a fluid. When the user is in the side position atop the second bladder, at least a portion of the fluid in the second bladder is displaced into the first bladder by the user's torso. The fluid displaced into the first bladder causes the first bladder to raise the user's head when in the side position atop the first bladder.
