An anchoring bracket for use in attaching substantially parallel boards to a generally transverse member or joist and in spacing the boards generally comprises a rain-spacer side and a joist attachment side. The rain spacer side has a spacing portion for placement on the top of the joist for spacing a board from the joist and an extended portion attached to the spacing portion for extending over the edge of the joist. A board spacer tab, affixed to the rain-spacer side, projects generally perpendicularly upward therefrom for positioning directly adjacent a board for controlling the spacing thereof. The joist attachment side includes an attachment portion disposed generally perpendicular to the rain-spacer side for attachment to the side of the joist and an angled portion connecting the attachment portion to the outer end of the extended portion. The angled portion includes holes for receiving a fastener for fastening a board to the bracket. An alternate embodiment includes a plurality of board spacer tabs affixed at intervals to the rain-spacer side; each for positioning directly adjacent a board for controlling the spacing of a plurality of boards.
A retrofit foundation system for bolting a sill plate to a foundation including, an upper piece member having a first upper portion for lying against the sill plate for bolting to the side of the sill plate and having a second portion extending outwardly from the side of the sill plate along the top of the foundation and extending past a side wall of the foundation. A lower piece member has a first lower portion for lying against the side of the foundation for bolting to the side of the foundation and has a second portion extending outwardly from the side of the foundation at the top of the foundation and with the outwardly extending portions of the upper piece member and the lower piece member lying adjacent to each other along a plane substantially parallel to the top of the foundation. The outwardly extending portions of the upper and lower piece members are attached together to transfer any external forces from the sill plate to the foundation.
A strip of sheet metal stock, having a plurality of serially-arranged holes formed therein is provided for fastening of the strip to a top plate of a building structure. The strip, further, has pairs of tabs formed therein which can be pried up from the plane of the strip, and put into vertical dispositions, to receive a rafter or truss between the paired, and vertically-disposed tabs. Holes in the tabs provide for the fastening of the emplaced rafters or trusses to the tabs. The pairs of tabs are uniformly spaced apart from other pairs thereof a distance which obtains between rafters or trusses according to conventional construction codes. An indeterminate supply of the strip can be stored on, and payed out from, a reel.
An intermediate rail to post connection including a sheet metal connector for attaching a wood intermediate rail to a wood post is disclosed. The sheet metal connector is preferably formed with a base member, an integral seat member and a post engaging flange. Preferably four fasteners which may be either screws or nails are inserted through suitable openings in the sheet metal connector. Two of the fasteners pierce the sheet metal connector, the intermediate rail and the post in such a way as to be in double shear. The other two fasteners are inserted through the sheet metal connector directly into the wood post. The sheet metal connector is placed on the underside of the intermediate rail and all fasteners are therefor inserted from the underside of the intermediate rail.
A system and method for constructing metal frame structures provides a framework in the form of a jig that is typically assembled at a construction site at ground level. The jig is filled with joists that are typically parallel to each other and spaced at predetermined intervals along the jig. A pair of indicator jig sections are used at either end of the grouping of joists. These indicators include a corrugated decking surface along their top. Decking sheets are laid over the joists so that they nest within the indicator decking. The decking is permanently joined to the joists, but not the indicator decking. The assembled decking and joists are lifted from the framework and positioned within a building framework. Further sections are constructed using the same technique until a or roof surface is formed over the entire framework. Utilities can be located within the assembled decking and joist framework while it is still on the ground.
A deck fastening system includes an underdeck elongated fastening clip. Such clip is in the form of an elongated metallic sheet of a predetermined width. The clip has a profile defined by a fastening flange, and a depending facia projecting at right angles to the fastening flange from the leading edge thereof, which terminates in an intersecting valley. An angularly upwardly-extending track projects from the intersecting valley at the lower end of the depending facia. A washer flange extends outwardly from the leading edge of the angularly-upwardly-extending track.
