5996583 - Sternum thoracic elevated fulcrum unit

A chiropractic device having front and rear portions, a central semi-circular raised portion extending upwardly from the upper surface of the device and notches formed in the sides of the front portion of the device. A patient rests his or her torso on the device by placing his or her sternum on the central semi-circular raised portion of the device. The device has first and second sides, each side having a front side portion, a middle slanted side portion extending outwardly from the front side portion to define a notch in the front portion of the device, and a rear side portion. The patient's arms are accommodated by the notches formed in the sides of the front portion of the device. The central raised portion places the patient in a superior position for treatment and protects the patient's chest from being pressed against the upper surface of the device during treatment.

5199124 - Cushion to prevent sleeping on the abdomen

A device to prevent a user from sleeping on or rolling onto the abdomen during sleeping including a resilient foam cushion having a generally wedge-shaped cross-section. The cushion is formed with a base having length and a width sufficient to engage major portions of the user's abdomen and sternum. The cushion further has two converging sides extending from the base, the elevation of the sides being between about 0.5 and 1.5 times the width of the base. A belt is used to maintain the cushion in position on the user's abdomen and sternum during sleeping. The belt extends from the cushion and is arranged to engage the torso of the user.

5163193 - 4-post spinal system with vacuum lock

Four post units in a positional pattern on which the patient lies, in a surgery operation. The post units are supported on a table, and have recesses in their under surface forming vacuum chambers with the table top. Hoses lead from the vacuum chambers to a vacuum source, and valve means individually control the hoses. The post units are thus locked in place by vacuum, and each can be released individually to enable it to be adjustably moved on the table top to enable better positioning for engagement by the patient.

7421749 - Body support for medical applications

A body support for medical applications comprising a main body piece, at least one expansion piece, and at least one, preferably two arm pieces, which may have their own expansion pieces. All of the pieces are preferably made of soft flexible materials. In one embodiment, the pieces are a soft cloth covering containing an internal cushion without an internal rigid frame. In an alternate embodiment the pieces are a soft cloth covering containing an internal cushion with an internal rigid frame. In yet another alternate embodiment, the pieces are a soft cloth covering containing a rigid or quasi-rigid internal frame and covered with a cushioning padding, such as foam rubber, batting or the like. The main body piece is of a generally triangular prismatic shape and has a single concavity in its front face, proximate the intersection of the front face and the back of the main body piece.

5418991 - Therapeutic appliance for spacing legs

A therapeutic appliance includes an elongate central cushion, four elongate peripheral cushions and opposing seams for interconnecting sets of two of the peripheral cushions to each other and to opposing sides of the central cushion. In one embodiment, the central and peripheral cushions collectively form a generally X-shaped configuration when viewed in transverse cross-section. In another embodiment, the central cushion can be eliminated so that the axes of the peripheral cushions lie at the corners of a rectangle when viewed in transverse cross-section. Each of the peripheral cushions is preferably of cylindrical configuration so as to provide snug support of a limb of a patient therebetween and prevent slippage of the appliance away from the patient during sleep, etc. However, straps may also be attached between adjacent ones of the peripheral cushions, for providing additional support and immobilizing a limb, by biasing a pair of adjacent peripheral cushions towards each other and eliminating any likelihood of slippage of the appliance away from the patient.
