An insole (10) for athletic shoes and the like. A first layer (12) of the insole is suitable for disposition toward a user's foot. A second molded layer (14) is comprised of a visco-elastic material. The visco-elastic material typically comprises a plasticizer, and, in minor portion, a resin material, and has the ability to flow, upon exertion of a force thereon, with sufficient elasticity to resume its original shape upon removal of the force. The second layer comprises a lower surface comprising recesses which make up less than 20% of the exterior surface in the absence of deforming forces. The recessed areas function to receive adjacent material of the second layer upon application of pressure representative of the presssure applied by the human foot. A third optional layer (16) of a foamed plastic material may be interposed between the first and second layers.
A removable insole for insertion into footwear, includes a lower layer made of a viscoelastic gel and including a lower surface, an upper surface, a toe portion, a heel portion and a medial arch portion interconnecting the toe portion and the heel portion, a first recess formed in the lower surface of the toe portion and a second recess formed in the lower surface of the heel portion, each recess having a peripheral side wall and a top wall, a plurality of thin, parallel, spaced apart sinusoidal wave shaped spring walls formed from the viscoelastic gel and connected to the top wall and the peripheral side wall in each recess, and the spring walls having lower edges generally coplanar with a lower surface of the toe portion and heel portion which is in surrounding relation to the respective recess; and a top cover secured to the upper surface of the lower layer.
Disclosed is a slipper having an outsole, an insole and an upper attached to the outsole. The outsole includes a bottom wall and a perimeter wall extending from the bottom wall to provide a polymer insole jell receiving area. The insole includes a polymer insole jell and is provided within the polymer jell insole receiving area of the outsole. The polymer insole jell can be formed within the polymer insole jell receiving area, or the polymer insole jell can be preformed and placed within the polymer insole jell receiving area. Also disclosed is a method for manufacturing a slipper.
A removable insole for insertion into footwear, includes a lower layer made of a viscoelastic gel and including a lower surface, an upper surface, a toe portion, a heel portion and a medial arch portion interconnecting the toe portion and the heel portion, a first recess formed in the lower surface of the toe portion and a second recess formed in the lower surface of the heel portion, each recess having a peripheral side wall and a top wall, a plurality of thin, parallel, spaced apart sinusoidal wave shaped spring walls formed from the viscoelastic gel and connected to the top wall and the peripheral side wall in each recess, and the spring walls having lower edges generally coplanar with a lower surface of the toe portion and heel portion which is in surrounding relation to the respective recess; and a top cover secured to the upper surface of the lower layer.
The invention is an elastomeric, energy-management cushion formed of at least one or more spaced, expandable, geometrically shaped cushioning elements disposed in a pattern on supporting base. The cushioning elements each have a plurality of angularly spaced projections, the projections of each cushioning element being interspersed between and spaced from the projections of the adjacent cushioning elements. The interspersed projections absorb and distribute compression forces applied to the cushioning elements as triangulated vector forces within the projections forming the respective cushioning elements, to which the compression forces are applied thereby providing an elastomeric, energy-management cushion.
Footwear including a sole for supporting a foot and an upper attached to the sole for covering the foot. The sole and upper define an interior of the footwear sized and shaped for receiving the foot. The upper has an inner surface adapted for engaging the foot when it is received in the interior of the footwear and an outer surface forming an exterior of the footwear. The upper also includes compressible cushioning permitting the upper to conform to the foot when it is received in the interior of the footwear to improve the fit of the footwear. The compressible cushioning is sized, shaped and positioned in the upper to at least partially surround a protrusion extending from the foot and is at least partially omitted from an area of the upper corresponding to the protrusion. Thus, a recess is formed in the upper for accommodating the protrusion to relieve pressure applied to the foot by the upper at the protrusion. The protrusions which are thus accommodated include protrusions at the heads of the first and fifth metatarsals, a portion of the fifth toe corresponding to the fifth proximal phalanx, and portions of the ankle corresponding to the distal heads of the tibia and fibula.
