A figure is disclosed having a head with a back projected image to animate the facial expression of the figure. The image is back projected onto the head's face by a wide angle lens inside the head having an extremely short focal length. The lens is adjustable for focusing and image registration purposes in vertical, horizontal and lateral directions with respect to the face by a lens adjustment system also inside the head. The image is brought inside the head to the lens by a coherent fiber optic bundle having a high resolution which transfers the image from a remote image source, such as a motion picture projector. Independent movement of the head in all directions with respect to other parts of the figure is provided by a motion device. The lens adjustment system and fiber optic bundle ensure that the image always remains in proper focus and registration on the face despite free and unrestricted movement of the head by the motion device.
An auxiliary lamp for a slit lamp device used in eye examination, to improve digital photography of the eye being examined, includes a casing and a fiber optic bundle terminating in a glued and polished end face, which end face forms a light emitting line. A cylindrical lens is positioned in front of the end face and is adjusted by a finger-operated screw device to be moved toward, and away from, the end face to focus the line of light.
A mannequin comprises a translucent headshell rigidly connected to a projection assembly which is mounted on a ball-and-socket joint on the torso. The headshell is movable about three axes by a gimballed motor arrangement.
A method and apparatus for displaying an image that is subject to multiple distortions substantially without distortion is provided. The image is recorded from a first viewpoint and subject to a first distortion and played back from a second viewpoint and subject to a second distortion. The display surface may also be distorted (e.g., curved). By mapping back through the projector to the screen and through the camera (at the viewpoint), the image is transformed so that it can be viewed from the viewpoint with little or no distortion.
A method displays an output image on an object. A set of unique markers are fixed to the object at predetermined locations. An input image of the object and the markers is acquired with a camera in a fixed physical relationship to a projector. A pose of the projector with respect to the markers is determined from the image. Then, one or more output images related to the object can be projected onto the object, at predetermine locations, according to the pose of the projector and the unique markers.
A process for displaying an animated likeness of the face of a character, includes the steps of (a) providing a face screen having a three-dimensional representation of the face of the character; (b) making a projectable image of the face of the character with an image recorder while projecting the image on the face screen with a projector; (c) obtaining a presentation registration of the image and the face screen through a process selected from the group consisting of (i) altering the projectable image, (ii) adjusting at least one component of face screen position, image recording means position, projector position, focal length and lighting while making the projectable image, and (iii) combinations thereof; and (d) subsequently projecting the image on the face screen at the presentation registration whereby an animated likeness of the face of the individual is presented. An apparatus for carrying out the process is also provided.
