A reflector for a lighting unit and a lighting unit comprising the same is disclosed. The reflector has a generally concave surrface, at least a portion of which concave surface is a series of facets. Each facet has a reflective surface area which is convex. Overlap of the light reflected from the reflective surface areas of adjacent facets provides substantially even illumination of a lens or other object.
A vehicle lamp comprises: a lamp body; and a lens disposed in front of the lamp body, forming a lamp chamber with the lamp body, wherein at least an area forming part of the inner surface of the lamp body or the lens is divided into a plurality of elements, and the cross sectional configuration of each element in two directions meeting at right angles comprises a concave curve in one direction and a convex curve in the other.
A signal lamp for vehicles has a reflector that acts to diffuse light from a light source within the lamp. The reflector is made up of multiple diffusing reflective elements having a reflecting region that reflects light emitted from the light source in a direction of an optical axis of the lamp. A lens is positioned in front of the reflector. The reflecting region of each diffusing reflective element is varied, such that an area ratio of the reflecting region for portions of the reflector with a high reflective illuminance is less than other portions having lower illuminance.
A vehicular lamp in which a lamp body is mounted at a corner of the vehicle body, the lamp body has a front opening which opens toward from the front or rear of the vehicle body to the side thereof. A front lens, which curves from the front or rear of the vehicle body to the side thereof, covers the front opening of the lamp body. A region of the lamp body surrounding a bulb insertion hole protrudes frontward. A light bulb engaged with the bulb insertion hole is disposed frontward of the periphery of the front opening of the lamp body.
A luminaire, for example a luminaire for emergency lighting, comprises a light source and an optical element mounted behind the light source, the element being shaped as a fresnel type element so that substantially all the light impinging upon it from the light source is redirected at a specific angle, typically 60.degree.. The element increases the light output over a specific area.
An improved outdoor lighting shield is provided for more efficiently illuminating large areas, such as roadways and parking lots. The shield is comprised of a standard lighting base and bulb, a translucent diffusing cylinder wrapped around the bulb, a reflective strip mounted around the diffusing cylinder, a highly-reflective truncated cone, and a non-reflective inverted cone mounted on top of the truncated cone. The diffusing cylinder softens light to reduce glare in the areas closest to the streetlight. The reflective strip reflects excess light onto the truncated cone, which casts a powerful ring of undiffused light to areas further from the streetlight. Any light that would normally be thrown into the atmosphere, causing light pollution, is caught by the inverted cone, which casts diffused light directly below the streetlight.
