Abstract
This invention relates to alkylamino and alkyl amino alkyl diarylketones of the formula ##STR1## where Ar is aryl of the formula ##STR2## where V is hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, CF.sub.3, No.sub.2 and u is an integer of 1 to 3; X and Y are independently CH.sub.2 --, --CH.sub.2 -- or --CHF--; Z and W are independently --CH.sub.2 --, --O--, --CHOH--, or --CHF--; m, n, p, q and t are integers which are independently 0 or 1; R.sub.1 is H or loweralkyl; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are loweralkyl; and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof and where applicable the geometric and optical isomers and racemic mixtures thereof. The compounds of this invention display utility as analgesic agents and as agents for alleviating various memory dysfunctions, characterized by a decreased cholinergic function, such as Alzheimer's disease.

6252105 - Synthesis of low-fluoride organic compounds - Owned by Solvay Fluor und Derivate GmbH (Hannover,DE)

Organic compounds, e.g. fluorinated organic compounds such as fluorinated carboxylic acids or fluorinated carboxylic acid chlorides, may contain small amounts of carboxylic acid fluorides, hydrogen fluoride or hydrolyzable fluoride, which during the preparation of derivatives of the fluorinated organic compounds, for example by esterification, may yield corrosive fluorides or hydrogen fluoride. The invention is a method for the synthesis and/or purification of preferably fluorinated organic compounds such as carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid chlorides and derivatives such as esters thereof, starting from corresponding carboxylic acid chlorides containing acid fluorides or hydrolyzable fluoride, and alcohols under the catalytic action of "onium" salts of carboxylic acids, to obtain products which have a low fluoride content. Alternatively, an inorganic oxide adsorbent is utilized. The method is especially suitable for the synthesis of esters of trifluoroacetic acid, chlorodifluoroacetic acid, trifluoroacetoacetic acid and/or difluoroacetoacetic acid.

5405991 - Process for producing carboxylic acid esters from carboxylic acid halides and alcohols

A process for preparing carboxylic esters from carboxylic acid halides or carboxylic anhydrides by reacting one of these starting materials with an alcohol under the catalytic action of "onium" or metal salts of carboxylic acids to obtain high yields of products in anhydrous form in a technically simple manner. The process is especially well suited for preparing 1,1,1-trifluoroethyl trifluoroacetate.

5728054 - Adjustable cervical collar - Owned by Ambu International A/S (Glostrup,DK)

An improved cervical collar comprised of an elongated neck encircling band, a chin support brace, a sternum and shoulder brace and an adjustment system secured to the sternum and shoulder brace and the elongated neck encircling band for adjusting the height of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band. The adjustment system is designed to lock the sternum and shoulder brace in position preventing further extension of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the elongated neck encircling band as well as preventing retrograde movement of the sternum and shoulder brace in relation to the neck encircling band. The collar also comprises a positive alignment tracking system for maintaining the sternum and shoulder brace in parallel alignment with the elongated neck encircling band as the height of the sternum and shoulder brace is adjusted. In an alternative embodiment the sternum and shoulder brace is an integral part of the elongated neck encircling band and the chin support brace is secured to a chin support height adjustment piece which is slidably secured to the elongated neck encircling band such that the height of the elongated neck encircling band and the sternum and shoulder brace are adjustable together and independent from the chin support height adjustment piece.
