Abstract
In a distributed data processing system having a plurality of terminals or workstations, and providing the ability for users at terminals to access complex graphic images from a mainframe host and manipulate them at their terminals for inclusion into their own works, a method is provided for manipulating elements of an image too complex or detailed to be displayed in their entirety on a terminal. Demarkation may be performed at one portion of the image, and may be completed in another portion of the image in which the first portion is off screen.

6473101 - Single surface multi-view panning system and method for multiple displays

A multi-view panning system and method links a plurality of virtual desktops into one larger desktop that may be navigated through the use of a position indicator over multiple display devices. The system and method facilitates multiple view panning by a user. In one embodiment, a separate panning rectangle is defined for each display device and a separate viewing area is associated with each panning rectangle. A common multi-display surface is defined to bound all pan locking rectangles associated with each display device of interest. Movement of a position indicator across at least one boundary of one pan locking rectangle causes the position indicator to control which data is contained in the second rectangular view on the second display to facilitate multi-view panning in a common surface, such as a desktop surface, over multiple displays.

5247678 - Load time linker for software used with a multiprocessor system - Owned by Texas Instruments Incorporated (Dallas, TX)

A method used in a multiprocessor computer system for linking extended functions, which are to be called from an application program running on a host processor and executed by a subprocessor, to primitive functions to be executed by the subprocessor. The extended functions may be created independently of the primitive functions, collected in a special partially linked load module, stored, and dynamically linked to other code at run time of the application program.

5550969 - Graphical method of indicating the position of and performing an operation on a plurality of selected objects in a computer system - Owned by International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY)

A method of indicating the position of multiple selections of objects in a windowed computer user interface. The method includes displaying objects to be selected in a window which includes a scroll bar. When objects in the window are selected, a marker icon is automatically placed in the scroll bar in response to such selection.

5392388 - Method and system for viewing graphic images in a data processing system - Owned by International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk, NY)

The method and system of the present invention permit the efficient management of the display of a panoramic or wide-angle image on a display device in a data processing system. The panoramic image typically includes a number of segments wherein only a portion of those segments may be displayed on the display device at selected resolutions. The method and system of the present invention includes displaying a substantially circular icon, having a defined periphery. Each portion of the defined periphery corresponds to one or more of the segments making up the panoramic image. A moveable control element is displayed along a selected arc about the periphery. One or more of the segments of the panoramic image corresponding to each portion of the defined periphery within the selected arc may then be selected and is displayed on the display device by manipulating the position of the moveable control element.

6101289 - Method and apparatus for unencumbered capture of an object - Owned by Electric Planet, Inc. (Palo Alto, CA)

A system and method are disclosed for providing an unencumbered capture by a computer system of an object in real-time. An object is placed in a displayer having an appropriate blue-screen surface which is positioned in the view of a camera connected to a computer. The camera captures a frame of an input image which included the object within the displayer being held by a user and possibly other background items. The system identifies a reduced-noise image of the input image and begins isolating the object. Any background items are filled out thereby recognizing the existence of the displayer. The displayer is then filled out leaving the object to be captured and entered into the computer for further manipulation and augmentation. The process is done with minimal human intervention and relies entirely on real-time visual input.
