Abstract
Addition interpolymers with pendant ionic moieties and pendant reactable silane moieties are prepared by addition polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers having ionic moieties with organofunctional silane compounds having ethylenic unsaturation in the organofunctional moiety of the silane where the silane also has reactable alkoxy and/or hydroxy group. The addition polymerization is performed in the presence of a free radical initiator at an elevated temperature up to around 90.degree. C. and in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. The amount of the ionic monomer is effective to result in the interpolymer having at least water dispersibility and most suitably water emulsifiability and the amount of the silane monomer is in the range of about 1 to about 15 weight percent of the interpolymer. The interpolymer may be prepared with one or more additional ethylenically unsaturated monomers where the amount does not decrease the ionic character of the interpolymer below that which renders the interpolymer water emulsifiable.

5705583 - Polymeric surface coatings - Owned by Biocompatibles Limited (Middlesex,GB)

Polymers of one or more radical polymerisable monomers which polymer has pendant groups bearing a center of permanent positive charge and other pendant groups capable of stably binding the polymer to a surface are useful in the treatment of surfaces to render them biocompatible. The polymers may contain pendant groups which bind the polymer to a surface by physisorption, covalent bonding or ionic interactions. Additionally reactive groups in the polymer may serve as points for attachment of ligands to the polymer when coated on a surface.

6733884 - Polymer compound containing silicon ester moiety and composition therefrom - Owned by Rohm and Haas Company (Philadelphia, PA)

A polymer compound having a silicon ester moiety is provided. The silicon ester moiety is located at one end of the polymer compound. The polymer compound contains as polymerized units ethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least one functional group that is pendant to the polymer backbone of the polymer compound. The polymer compound is useful for modifying the surface properties of inorganic substrates. Also provided are a method of preparing the polymer compound and an inorganic substrate that has been treated with the polymer compound.

5137765 - Derivatized glass supports for peptide and protein sequencing - Owned by Porton Instruments, Inc. (Tarzana, CA)

Peptides or proteins are sequenced by stepwise degradation while immobilized on a glass support derivatized with a silica-binding substance bearing a free acid group, especially a sulfonic acid group. The support is preferably derivatized with 2-(4-chlorosulfonyl phenyl) ethyl trimethoxysilane. Peptide sequencing performance is improved if the support is also derivatized with a monomeric silica-binding substance bearing a free quaternary ammonium group, such as N-trimethyoxysilyl propyl -N,N,N-trimethyl ammonium chloride.
