A syphon seltzer package (10) consists of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottle (12) with a neck (16) having an opening (18), into which a valve insert (20) is mounted. The insert (20) is held in place by mechanical attachment. The insert (20) fits into a sleeve (50) in an interference fit. Projections (52) on the outside of wall (32) insure a positive seal between the insert (20) and the sleeve (50). Similar projections (54) on the outside surface (56) of the sleeve (50) provide a positive seal between the sleeve (50) and the neck (16) of the bottle (12). At the bottom of the sleeve (50), there are four projections (58) spaced at 90 degree intervals around the sleeve (50). Castellations (60) are provided around the sleeve (50) between the projections (58). To assemble the package (20), the sleeve is inserted in the neck (16). The insert (20) is then driven into the sleeve (50). An interference fit between the insert (20) and the sleeve (50) causes the projections (58) and the castellations (60) to splay outward when the insert (20) is fully driven into the sleeve (50). The outward splaying of the projections (58) and castellations (60) locks the sleeve (50) and insert (20) in place in the neck (16) of the bottle (12).
ORIGIN OF APPLICATION
This application is a continuation-in-part of a copending earlier Application, Ser. No. 07/158,229, filed Feb. 19, 1988, now abandoned, in the names of Richard J. Hagan and Michael D. Clausen, now abandoned.
A valve includes a valve body including a recess therein, a valve element movably disposed in the recess and a seal member disposed in the recess. The seal member has first, second and third separate and distinct sealing surfaces which are engageable by the valve element in response to fluid pressure in the recess.
A manually operative siphoning pump apparatus for transferring liquid from one container to another container. The siphoning pump apparatus has a hollow cylindrical pump body through which liquid from one container to another can flow and a bellows attached thereto for establishing a vacuum within said pump body. The hollow pump body has a inlet pipe and an outlet an elongated flexible hose or tube connected to each of the pipes. The siphoning pump apparatus has an axially movable valve within the hollow pump body for initiating, controlling and shutting off the flow of liquid through the pump body during the siphoning process and, hence, from one container to another container. The axially movable valve has a cylindrical head at one end thereof and a connector at the opposite end thereof for fixing it to the bottom of the bellows. The axially movable valve is manually controlled by an elongated lever arm pivotally attached to a housing handle at one end and fixedly attached to the bottom of the bellows.
A closure (10) is provided for a water bottle of the type used in conjunction with a water fountain. The closure (10) comprises a body (20) having an open feed cylinder (50) and a sealing cap (30) which is movable between a sealing position and an open position and is adapted to seal the feed cylinder when in a sealing position. The sealing cap is biased towards a sealing position by biasing means which preferably comprise a plastics spring (70) that anchors the sealing cap (30) to the body (20). The form of the spring (70) and the arrangement of the sealing cap (30) and the feed cylinder (50) are such as to minimize and compensate for creep in the plastics material of the spring (70) in use of the closure (10) to ensure resealing of the feed cylinder (50) if and when the water bottle is removed from the water fountain.
A flow control device with an inlet for the flow of fluid and a movable member sealing the inlet and having a flexible body for controlling flow by the extent to which the flexible body of the movable member is buckled. The movable member extends between the inlet and an outlet and is expandable laterally with respect to the axis of a channel for the outlet in order to control flow. A member external to the flow control device can activate the moveable member which can take the form of a plug seated in the inlet by depressing the plug from its seat. The movable member also can be bell-shaped with its upper portion sealing the inlet and slotted walls straddling the outlet.
A flow control valve is described comprised of first and second rigid members and a resilient single or multi stage valve element disposed between the rigid members. A fluid flow path is defined through the rigid members and through or around the valve element to provide a continuous flow path through the valve. The rigid members are movable relative to each other between a first position and a second position. The valve element is sufficiently compressed by the rigid members when they are in the first position so as to close the flow path through or around the valve element. The valve element is sufficiently relaxed when the rigid members are in the second position to allow fluid flow through the flow path through or around the valve element.
