Abstract
A wheel speed sensor apparatus for detecting the rotational speed of a road wheel of an automotive vehicle. The apparatus includes a toothed rotor rotatable with a road wheel of the vehicle. A sensor main body contains an element which produces an electical signal in response to adjacent passage of the rotor teeth upon rotation of the sensor rotor. The sensor main body is fitted inside inside a metallic sleeve in a manner such that a tip end section of the sensor main body is in close proximity to the sensor rotor. The metallic sleeve is fitted in the installation hole. The installation member is made of aluminum or aluminum alloy and is connected with the base section of a suspension strut of the vehicle.

6523425 - Speed sensor retaining and assembly - Owned by Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (Elyria, OH)

A self-adjusting retention bushing and assembly for a vehicle anti-lock braking system using a resilient spring bushing with an integral locking prong is described. The locking prong is deflected and spring loaded to engage the sensor when the sensor is installed. The locking prong resists movement of the sensor relative to the bushing. The deflected locking prong also resists retraction of the bushing from the mounting block. The locking features prevent inadvertent movement of the sensor during assembly, repair or use.

5610827 - Method of and apparatus for peak amplitude detection - Owned by SSI Technologies, Inc. (Janesville, WI)

The invention provides a method and apparatus for detecting maxima and minima of an array of data points defining a periodic, symmetrical waveform. The method comprises comparing the "y" values of two marker points (selected from the array of data points), which marker points are spaced apart along the waveform by a predetermined number of data points. If the "y" values of the two marker points are not substantially the same, both marker points are incremented in the "x" direction, and their "y" values are tested again. If the "y" values are substantially the same, within a predetermined tolerance value t, a positive or negative peak has been found. Optionally, the points between the marker points are then sorted to find the tip of the peak.

7503213 - Bimetallic sensor mount for axles - Owned by American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (Detroit, MI)

An axle assembly for a vehicle includes an axle housing having a tubular portion. A bimetallic sensor mount having a first region of corrosion resistant material and a second region of weldable material is welded to the tubular portion. A differential unit including a side gear is disposed in a central cavity of the axle housing. An axleshaft having a shaft portion and a target portion with a plurality of teeth is disposed in the tubular portion of the axle housing. The shaft portion is coupled to the side gear. A sensor is coupled to the sensor mount and extends through an aperture in the mount and the tubular portion to locate an end portion of the sensor a predetermined distance from the teeth of the target portion. A method of making an axle assembly having a sintered bimetallic sensor mount is also disclosed.

5481455 - System for detecting hydroplaning of vehicle - Owned by Nissan Motor Co, Ltd. (Yokohama,JP)

A control system, such as a traction control system, for a wheel vehicle comprises a detecting section for detecting a hydroplaning condition by comparing a difference between a sensed undriven wheel speed, and a filter signal obtained by passing the sensed undriven wheel speed signal through a low-pass filter, and a controlling section for performing a control action adapted to the hydroplaning condition. This control system can detect the hydroplaning condition accurately, and control the vehicle adequately to negotiate the hydroplaning condition.

7023205 - Eddy current sensor capable of sensing through a conductive barrier - Owned by General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, Inc. (Arlington, VA)

An eddy current sensor that can be mounted on the outside of a casing for a turbine or other rotating machinery to measure characteristics of nearby, moving, electrically conductive objects through the casing. Monodirectional and omnidirectional sensors are provided. High-strength uniaxial permanent magnets generate static magnetic fields. A signal voltage is produced on a wound coil in response to a variable magnetic field caused by eddy currents in the conductive object as the conductive object passes through the stationary magnetic field. The present invention sensors are also directed to measuring characteristics of turbine blades through jet engine casings.
