Abstract
Recumbent cycle (12) is supported by a pair of forward steerable wheels (16) and a single rear drivewheel (18) mounted on rear end portion of a frame structure (14) by a hub assembly (50) having an integral transmission and brake. A pair of side-mounted gimbal assemblies (170L, 170R) may be conveniently tilted laterally to steer wheels (16) in the same corresponding direction. The gimbal assemblies (170L, 170R) may be individually or in unison tilted in the forward direction to actuate the brake of hub assembly (50). Frame structure (14) includes a forward beam (34) telescopically engaged within a main beam (32) to vary the distance between a crank assembly (28) and a seat (20) to accommodate riders of different sizes.

6086078 - Rowing machine with wheels

A rowing machine with a body frame assembly and actuated by a seated user. It includes a stabilizing wheel assembly with the ends of a pivotally mounted axle provided with wheels. A pivotally mounted front wheel assembly is designed for steering the machine and a rotably mounting rear wheel for supporting the bulk of the user's weight as it is transmitted the seat assembly to the frame of the machine and to the rear wheel. The steering mechanism includes a novel steering linkage rod connecting the fork supporting the front wheel and the pivotally mounted axle where the stabilizing wheel assembly is rotably mounted. The approximate distance from the pivoting axis of the front wheel to the point on which one end of the steering linkage is pivotally mounted corresponds to 3 inches. The length of the steering linkage rod is approximately 27 and 5/16 inches. The distance from the pivoting axis of the axle to which the stabilizing wheels are mounted to the point where the other end of the steering linkage is connected is 4 and 3/4 inches. These measurements have found to provide the optimum results and minor variations are contemplated to give substantially the same results, specially when the measurements are proportionally increased or decreased maintaining the same relationships.

7066480 - System for controlling a moving part, steering system for a light vehicle and tricycle fitted with said system - Owned by Sport System Engineering (Futuroscope Cedex,FR)

The steering system according to the invention provides a means of coordinating the movements of the two steering handles on a machine such as light tricycle type vehicles propelled by a pedal (5) and propulsion arms (6).The steering system comprises two handles (8) installed free to pivot, each handle being installed at the end of one of the propulsion arms (6) and a first cable (10) being fixed to the bottom of each handle. The second end is fixed to the steering shaft (9) of the tricycle. A second cable connects the two handles to each other to coordinate the movement of the handles (8).Application to leisure tricycles, light vehicles in general, indoor sports and medical re-education apparatus and static game facilities for leisure parks.

7114737 - Recumbent vehicle - Owned by Rasmussen; C. Martin (Kaysville, UT)

Disclosed is a recumbent bicycle having a frame with at least one tubular member having a lumen. Mounted to the frame are a rear wheel assembly and a transmission assembly. The transmission assembly can include a first gear, a second gear, and a chain that extends from the first gear to the second gear and through the lumen of the at least one tubular member. Pedals and crank arms can mount to the second gear, which is slidable relative to the first gear to vary the position of the second gear relative to a seat mounted to the frame. A suspension assembly can mount a pair of front wheels to the frame at a location intermediate of the first portion and the second portion of the frame. The bicycle enables riders of different leg lengths to use the recumbent bicycle, while the suspension assembly cushions the rider during use.

5383675 - Drive and control mechanisms for human powered vehicles

A human powered mechanism for propelling a wheeled land vehicle, a water vehicle (a boat or hydroplane) using either a water screw or a jet of water or an ultra-light aircraft with an air screw. The mechanism can utilize either arm or leg muscles or preferably, both arms and legs extending and retracting in a manner similar to walking or running as performed from a semi-recumbent position. Steering or other critical control is accomplished through another mechanism which is guided by the appropriate movement of the operator's head. The operators feet are placed on pedals which are attached to swinging members which pivot in a bearing at the upper end. The operator's hands grasp leverage arms which are cantilevered, the distal ends of which are attached to the same push-pull connecting rods as the above mentioned swinging members with foot pedals attached.

5979922 - Bicycle having novel drive and steering mechanisms

A bicycle includes a frame having front and rear sections. The frame includes a pair of guides that are disposed in a parallel relationship and carry a portion of the load generated by a seated rider. The guides define therebetween a pedal drive path that extends parallel to the guides. A rear wheel is rotatably mounted to the frame adjacent the rear section. An elongate flexible connector forms a loop. A seat is mounted to the frame for support of a rider. A drive mechanism is connected to the frame and includes a pair of pedals that are operably attached to the rear wheel by the flexible connector for powered rotation of the rear wheel. The pedals are slidably supported and guided between the guides for motion along the pedal drive path between an extended position and a retracted position.
