7032507 - Device and method for brewing coffee and espresso beverages

Device and method for brewing coffee comprises a body connected to a container for allowing the formation of a dispersion of flavor-containing materials and liquid and the extraction of the flavor-containing materials to produce a liquid extraction, a porous filter connected to the body and having a first surface for contacting the dispersion, filtration openings for allowing the liquid extraction in the dispersion to pass through but blocking the flavor-containing materials and a second surface for receiving the liquid extraction, and a flow facilitator having a selective opening adapted to allow air to pass through but restrict the flavor-containing materials from passing through. The body and porous filter are adapted to allow the container to be tilted to generate a liquid head to act on the first surface of porous filter to drive the liquid extraction through the porous filter to produce a beverage. A coffee fine removing means may be incorporated into the device to render coffee beverage free of coffee fines to improving coffee smoothness. The device may further comprise an extraction chamber and an exchange chamber for producing a supply of beverage in the container for drinking or dispensing without any need to tilt the container to generate the liquid head.

5424083 - Self contained disposable coffee brewing device

The invention is a self contained disposable coffee brewing cone comprising a pouch having an inside, a top, a bottom, an open circular top, and a permeable circular bottom. A pre-measured volume of coffee is located inside the pouch at the bottom, and is sandwiched between a permeable filter net and the permeable circular bottom. A flange is located at the top of the pouch, extending radially outward from the pouch, parallel to the horizon. The flange has a flange tab and perforations along its center, so that an outer flange ring may be peeled back and separated from an inner flange ring and the remainder of the pouch, to be utilized as a handle.

5941055 - Apparatus for making an instant beverage container with product therein

An apparatus and method for making a beverage container which contains an instant beverage material individually sealed within the beverage container by a filter disk and an insert disk combination. The apparatus includes a mandrel having a flange and a forming die which is slideably mounted on the mandrel. The forming die has a chamfered outer surface which fits into a beverage container and an inner stepped portion which is configured to engage the flange of the mandrel and receive the filter disk and insert disk to be inserted into a beverage container. A funnel press is provided which has a funnel portion and a press portion. The press portion mates with the mandrel and forming die to draw a portion of the filter disk into the mandrel to simultaneously form a pocket in and crimp a filter disk which is subsequently loaded with an instant beverage material using the funnel portion. The mandrel and forming die interact, through sequential forming steps, to fold a portion of the filter disk over an insert disk and insert the filter disk, insert disk, and instant beverage material securely into the bottom of a beverage container.

5880441 - Microwave beverage maker apparatus and method - Owned by National Presto Industries, Inc. (Eau Claire, WI)

A beverage-brewing apparatus is provided which includes an outer cup member and an inner cup member. The outer cup member includes an open top, a sidewall and a bottom. The inner cup member has a sidewall, a first seal and a basket portion, with the sidewall of the inner cup member dimensioned to fit within the sidewall of the outer cup member. The first seal is disposed along an outer surface of the inner cup member for engaging the inner sidewall of the outer cup member to form a seal while still permitting the inner cup member to move within the outer cup member. The basket portion of the inner cup member is disposed at the bottom of the inner cup member. The basket portion includes a base with at least one aperture and a first filter medium, a sidewall, and a cap member having at least one aperture and a second filter medium. The cap member is releasably connected to the sidewall of the basket portion so that brewing material can be securely retained within the basket portion between the filter medium. The inner cup member is slidable between a first upper position where the basket portion of the inner cup member is disposed above the base of the outer cup member and a second lower position where the basket portion of the inner cup member is disposed against the base of the outer cup member such that liquid is forced through the basket portion when the inner cup member moves between the first and second positions with the first seal engaging the sidewall of the outer cup member. The apparatus preferably includes a lid having an aperture which is secured to the apparatus to close the apparatus.
