Abstract
The invention applies a viewing system used for reproduction or proofing based on the colorimetric analysis, the characteristics of which are based on the fact that the external conditions affecting the visual color impression of the screen image or other non-reflecting image and of the reflecting image the same. Furthermore, as all the colors in the images have the same chromaticity and luminance, the internal charcteristics of the images do not distort the total color impression, either. In the viewing system the screen or other non-reflecting image (1) is placed behind a uniformly illuminated, usually medium gray, viewing plane (4). The viewing plane is provided with an opening of the same size and shape as the reflecting image, through which viewer sees a part of the screen or other non-reflecting image, and another opening for the reflecting image (6).

7001038 - Method and apparatus for object viewing, observation, inspection, identification, and verification

In an object verifier having a housing and an object holder, an object may be placed in the object holder for observation by an operator. The object is illuminated using a collimated beam of white light that is generated by a light generator. The collimated beam of white light is passed through a beam splitter with the two portions of the collimated beam of white light presented to the object at a 90 degree angle one from the other. The interior of the housing includes a reflective surface for maximal illumination of the object. The observer may view the illuminated object through a viewing window and/or through a magnification window. The magnification window provides for the viewing of the object in greater detail.

6344900 - Image processing apparatus, method and recording system for providing color matching between a light source and a material color - Owned by Canon Kabushiki Kaisha (Tokyo,JP)

An image processing method whereby when a display of a light source color to display a visible image by a color generation and a display of a material color to display a visible image by depositing a coloring agent onto a material to be recorded are color matched, a luminance component of the material color display is corrected so as to be larger than the luminance component of the light source color display. The correction of the luminance component is executed after converting into color space signals which don't depend on characteristic of the visible image display apparatus to be used. The luminance component is raised in the conversion from an input signal of the light source color display into an output signal of the material color display and the luminance component is reduced in the conversion from an input signal of the material color display into an output signal of the light source color display.

6577395 - Method for measuring a lighting condition and an apparatus thereof - Owned by Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY) Fujitsu LTD (JP)

A method, apparatus and computer-readable medium allows users to measure a lighting condition of an object. In one embodiment, at least one user visually compares colored materials against a displayed color sample. Users may adjust the color of the displayed color sample by changing corresponding attribute values until the displayed color sample appears to substantially match the colored material. Once users indicate that they have established a color match between a displayed color sample and a colored material, the spectral irradiance value of the substantially matched color sample is calculated. The spectral irradiance value represents a measurement of the lighting condition in a particular room.
