Abstract
A bed comprises a base framework, an intermediate framework and a mattress framework which comprises a central frame, a head frame and a foot frame. Main rams connect the intermediate framework to the base framework for raising and lowering and tilting the intermediate framework relative to the base framework. The rams pivotally engage the intermediate framework by shafts. The ram is rigidly mounted to the main framework. A pivot frame pivotally mounts the ram about a pair of pivot axes relative to the base framework to accommodate tilting of the intermediate framework.

6163904 - Articulated table for supporting a person - Owned by Everett Associates, Inc. (Santa Rosa, CA)

An articulated table for supporting a person is comprised of a frame with legs, an articulated tabletop supported by the frame, and a motorized actuator assembly under the tabletop. The tabletop includes a pivotable torso section hinged to a fixed seat section, which is hinged to a pivotable upper leg section, which is hinged to a pivotable lower leg section. The actuator assembly includes first and second pairs of actuating linkages for respectively moving the torso and upper leg sections. Each actuating linkage is comprised of a power axle spaced from a follower axle. A crank arm extends orthogonally from the power axle. A lifting arm extends orthogonally but unevenly in different directions from the follower axle. Rotation of the crank arm is transmitted to the lifting arm by a connecting arm pivotally connected between the crank arm and a shorter section of the lifting arm. A roller is attached to the end of the longer section of the lifting arm. To raise the tabletop, the longer section of the lifting arm of each actuating linkage is rotated upwardly in a predetermined direction by rotating the crank arm in a similar direction. The lower leg section is kept in a level attitude throughout its range of movement by idler arms connected between its lower side and the frame.

6217114 - Stationary or wheeled inclinable seat arrangement, in particular for the sick or handicapped - Owned by Degonda-Rehab SA (Lausanne,CH)

An inclinable seat arrangement, in particular for a sick or handicapped occupant, is described. It comprises a framework (2) and an inclinable seat (3) connected to the framework by an articulation (4) and by a positioning mechanism arranged so as to facilitate the manipulations for inclining the seat by the occupant or by another person. The axis of the articulation (4) is preferably located proximate a vertical line passing through the center of gravity (G1) of the occupant when in a position corresponding to the equilibrium position of the empty seat. An elastic mechanism, exerting a progressive return couple toward the equilibrium position, comprises elastic bearings (24) within the articulation. The elastic mechanism also preferably comprises a constant force gas thrustor (6) which includes a controlled blocking arrangement. In place of the gas thrustor there may be provided a motorized jack (51) controlled by the occupant (48). The seat arrangement may be employed in stationary or wheeled chairs for the sick or handicapped.

7124456 - Articulated support surface for a stretcher or gurney - Owned by Stryker Corporation (Kalamazoo, MI)

A patient support apparatus having a base, a litter frame, an elevation mechanism interconnecting the base to the litter frame and being configured to effect changes in elevation of the litter frame relative to the base. The litter frame includes a pair of laterally spaced and longitudinally extending support rails and a plurality of laterally extending support rails interconnecting the longitudinally extending support rails so that the litter frame has a rectangular configuration. Selected ones of the laterally extending support rails are mounted to the elevation mechanism. On the aforesaid litter frame there is mounted various modules, namely, (1) a patient support deck, (2) a set of lateral edge siderails, (3) a holder for bottled gas, (4) an attendant work surface, oriented beneath the head section when the head section is in a horizontal position, (5) a seat, thigh and foot section assembly, and (6) a head section having manipulatable controls thereon supportingly secured to the litter frame separately from the seat, thigh and foot section assembly.

6038718 - Surgical table - Owned by Midmark Corporation (Versailles, OH)

A surgical table including a control system for facilitating manipulation of the table top when a patient is a normal and a reversed position. The table includes moveable table top sections whereby the table may be reconfigured from a normal configuration for receiving a patient with the patient's head at a head end of the table to a reversed configuration with the patient's head located at the foot end of the table. The controller is adapted to sense the configuration of the table and automatically reverse selectable functions for movement of the table when the table is in the reverse configuration.

6536056 - Bariatric treatment system and related methods

A bariatric treatment system providing a comprehensive array of therapeutic services for the morbidly obese patient is disclosed. The treatment system generally comprises a stable bed frame upon which is mounted a low air loss therapeutic mattress system. Integrated hardware and software controls provide such therapies as pulsation, percussion, rotation, cardiac chair and Trendelenburg. Means are disclosed whereby the bariatric patient may safely and comfortably enter and exit the bed with relative ease. The bed is adaptable for transport within a hospital, including such features as a TRANSPORT MODE wherein the bed's lateral axis is minimized and battery backup to maintain necessary therapies during patient transport. A plurality of control means are disclosed for simplification of caregiver workload and ease of patient utilization.
