A highly alkaline, no-base hair relaxer cream composition is disclosed which is phase-stable on ageing. A composition of this invention is a highly alkaline cosmetic cream base that may be used directly as a no-base hair relaxer or as a no-lye cream that may be converted for use as a no-base, no-lye hair relaxer by admixture with an aqueous activator solution. A method for preparing such a phase-stable no-base hair relaxer cream composition is also disclosed.

Methods for preparing hair relaxer compositions which comprise a lithium salt and an alkaline earth hydroxide, wherein the lithium salt is in molar excess to the alkaline earth hydroxide. Compositions, kits containing the compositions, and methods for using the compositions are also disclosed.
Disclosed is a clear, antiperspirant material-containing, gel stick composition, containing an acidic antiperspirant material (e.g., an aluminum salt) and gelled with dibenzylidene sorbitol, the composition including a guanidine compound (for example, guanidine carbonate or aminoguanidine bicarbonate) as a stabilizing agent to reduce degradation of the gel and of the dibenzylidene sorbitol gelling agent. Also disclosed are continuous processes for forming the gel stick composition, wherein degradation of the dibenzylidene sorbitol gelling agent in the presence of the antiperspirant material is reduced.
The present invention relates to a no-mix hair relaxer formulation and methods of its use. The relaxer includes a synergistic combination of sodium hydroxide and lithium hydroxide and has a pH of between about 12.7 and about 13.2. These no-mix hair relaxers provide excellent hair straightening performance, in 30 minutes or less, with reduced irritation.
Concentrated suspensions of smectite clays are obtained as either relatively "thin" or highly shear-thinning slurries that are easy to pump, by adding one or more of certain cationic polymers whose weight average molecular weight, Mw, is 50,000 or higher. It was found during the course of the invention that a cationic polymer with an Mw of 10,000 did not work, while the same polymer with a bimodal Mw of 50,000 and 30,000 worked satisfactorily. To achieve the full advantage of the present invention, the cationic polymer preferably has 1 to 10 milliequivalents of cationic charge per gram of the polymer, and more preferably 5 to 10 milliequivalents of cationic charge per gram of the polymer, and most preferably 6 to 8 milliequivalents of cationic charge per gram of the polymer.
A composition which is one comprising water, a wax ester, and at least one of other components usable in cosmetics, and contains an ester composed of C.sub.18-34 fatty acid--C.sub.18-44 higher alcohol, and an amphoteric surface active agent, and can further contain a C.sub.18-34 higher fatty acid. It is possible to provide an intermediate composition for cosmetics and the above final product which are excellent in feelings in use to skin, and have physical and chemical characteristics for making their stable storage possible, and can be advantageously used particularly for foundation, lipstick, eye shadow, etc.
