A mattress cover/fitted bed sheet which consists of a substantially rectangular blank of textile material with opposed sides and opposed ends. A pair of generally triangular pieces are cut out of the opposed sides adjacent the ends. Each of the triangular cut outs has a pair of opposed sides, an apex directed inwardly on the textile material and a base coincident with one of the sides of the textile material. The sides of the triangular cut outs are joined to form a biased side seam such that, when placed on a mattress, textile material is drawn under the end of the mattress.
This application is a continuation-in-part of allowed patent application Ser. No. 07/588,357, filed Sep. 26, 1990, now abandoned, which is incorporated herein by reference.
A fitted sheet has cutout portions at both of its bottom corners that permit, with the aid of separable fasteners located at the cutout portions, to convert the sheet from a planar configuration to a configuration comprising two pockets adapted to retain the sheet on the mattress.
A connected bed sheet assembly has a fitted bottom sheet and a top sheet aligned with and interconnected to the bottom sheet along a single aligned end and along a single aligned edge, leaving one free end and one free edge. The fitted bottom sheet is formed to fully cover the upper surface of a mattress and extend over the sides and partially underneath the mattress to removably secure the assembly to the mattress. Elastic members are connected to a portion of the ends and edges of the bottom sheet for secure retention to the mattress. The top sheet extends over the bottom sheet from the interconnected end and edge and over the upper surface of the mattress with its free end adjacent to the head of the mattress and its free edge draping over the edge of the mattress.
The edge portion (18) of sheet material moves about a turning plate (65), moving through first and second right angle turns (44) and (45). A turning belt (50) moves in unison with the edge portion (18) through the first two turns, and then moves through third and fourth right angle turns to advance along its return flight. An open ended slot (73) is formed between the first and second right angle turns to allow the turning belt and edge portion to move from beneath the turning plate to above the turning plate, so as to permit the edge portion of the sheet material to always turn in a downward direction as it is being turned over and placed in a folded position. Folding plate (77) guides the sheet material to help form the fold (20) in the sheet material, and separator plate (76) separates the edge portion (18) of the sheet material from the turning belt (50).
