This invention relates to the construction and manufacture of lightweight fibrous acoustical wall and ceiling panels. The acoustical panel is comprised of a lightweight fiberglass core to which a white or light colored glass mat is applied. The glass mat provides a relatively stiff surface to the fiberglass and at the same time bridges irregularities inherent in lightweight acoustical fiberglass core materials. The white or light colored glass mat covers the natural yellow or light brown color of the core material sufficiently to provide a suitable base to which multicolored flakes with an adhesive binder can be applied using a spray tecnique.
An aqueous phenol/formaldehyde resole resin is disclosed having improved speciation. An aqueous extended phenol/formaldehyde and polycarboxylic acid co-binder and low emissions process for making the same are also disclosed. Glass fiber products may be prepared using the co-binder.
A fabric for use in wallcoverings, wail paneling, and ceiling tiles comprising a fabric layer comprising pigmented resin textured glass woven yarn, a stain repellant polymeric fluorocarbon face coating applied to a first side of the fabric layer, and an opaque back coating comprising an acrylic resin applied to a second side of said fabric layer, wherein the fabric is flame retardant, flexible and has substantial dimensional stability and strength.

A process for preparing binder-coated fiber-glass products employs as a binder aqueous polymer systems comprising a nitrogenous formaldehyde resin such as a urea-extended alkaline phenol/formaldehyde resole together with an acidic polyacrylate which cocure to form a thermoset polymer while synergistically reducing ammonia emissions which normally occur during cure of the nitrogenous formaldehyde resin. The polymer system may be used in applications other than fiberglass where reduced emissions are desired.
A tile bracket support system that has a tile side support bracket or clip and a tile bottom support bracket or clip attached to the tile without the use of screws or adhesives. The tile side support bracket or clip has tile side edge embedding members and vertical frame member engaging members. The tile bottom support bracket has tile bottom edge embedding members and horizontal frame member engaging members thereby holding the tile affixed to the horizontal and vertical frame members without the use of screws or adhesives.
