Abstract
Protective eyewear for sports activities and the like having a resilient rigid frame is disclosed. Included is a sealing area around the eyes having a web which diverges outwardly in every direction toward the lens frame. The frame is curvedly contoured around the face of the user and in conjunction with the diverging web, provides both maximum eye protection and peripheral visibility. A semi-rigid frame provides for temple mounting and obviates the need for around-the-head straps.

7091634 - Half-jacket eyewear with removable dust shield - Owned by KBC America, Inc. (Burbank, CA)

Disclosed is eyewear that may have a half-jacket frame and a removable dust shield for preventing direct impingement of dust upon a wearer's eye. The eyewear may have a titanium frame and removable lenses free of any attachment structure. The frame may have a lens-retaining ridge with a thin cross section. A nosepad on the frame may carry a shield retainer for releasably affixing a shield to the frame. The nosepad and the half-jacket frame front may be cast together in one piece out of titanium or titanium alloy. An anti-slip nosepad cover may partially cover the nosepad and leave the shield retainer exposed. A removable shield may have a lower lens groove that circumferentially mates with an upper lens groove of an orbital of a half-jacket frame, thereby circumferentially completing the lens groove when the shield is in place. A rigid temple may carry a slip resistor for contacting the wearer's skin. The eyewear may have a vent to reduce fogging of the lenses and the shield may be air-permeable.

5638145 - Vented eyeglass lens - Owned by Oakley, Inc. (Irvine, CA)

Disclosed is a dual-lens vented eyeglass. In one embodiment, each lens is provided with a plurality of apertures extending therethrough, at the junction between the lens and the surrounding frame. In another embodiment, a plurality of apertures are provided in the frame, surrounding the lens. The apertures optimize ventilation, with minimal intrusion into the optical zone.

6210000 - Apparatus, system, and method for preventing computer vision syndrome

The present invention provides a system, apparatus, and method for preventing Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) that addresses the various causes of CVS. To help maintain a proper preocular tear film the present invention provides a device to generate a blink reminder signal and a blink indicator, such as a light, a speaker, or a portion of a display monitor, to communicate the blink reminder signal to the computer user. The device may incorporate feedback devices such as a blink monitor, a temperature monitor, a humidity monitor, an elapsed time monitor, or a clock. The present invention also provides an eye enclosure that defines an enclosed area about the computer user's eye that is at least partially enclosed. The invention incorporates components aimed at optimizing the environment within the enclosed area. For example, air moisteners communicating with the enclosed area maintain a relatively high humidity within the enclosed area and reduce the evaporation of fluid from the eyes. The moistening fluid may be adapted to the particular needs of the individual and other conditions, such as temperature, may also be controlled. Also, the composition of the tear film may be manipulated using the moistening fluid or a small pellet placed in the cul de sac of the user's eye to help maintain a proper tear film or otherwise change the tear film characteristics.

5331691 - Intra-orbital swim goggles - Owned by John L. Runckel Trust (Portland, OR)

An intra-orbitally engaging pair of swim goggles is described. The goggles include two eyepieces connected by a bridge and a fastener for securing the eyepieces over the user's eyes. Each eyepiece has a planar eye-shaped lens, upper and lower walls extending backward and culminating in an inwardly sloping intra-orbital facing rim. A conformable pad is affixed to the rim for comfortably engaging an inner wall of the user's eye orbit. The upper and lower walls of each eyepiece meet along a lateral ridge extending perpendicularly backward from the lens.

6233342 - Sunglasses with adjustable ventilation - Owned by Pan-Optx, Inc. (Pleasanton, CA)

Eyewear is disclosed for use in sports and the like which allows the wearer to adjust the flow of air across the inside surface of the lens without having to remove the eyewear. The eyewear includes a frame shaped to fit a wearer's face, one or two lenses mounted in the frame, and a temple bracket mounted on each side of the frame. Each temple bracket has a front surface substantially contiguous with the front surface of the frame and containing an inlet opening. An inner surface of each temple bracket contains an outlet opening and a passageway connecting the inlet opening and outlet opening. A block is positioned for sliding movement in the passageway and is connected to a button mounted for sliding movement on the outer surface of each temple bracket. When the end of the block proximal to the inlet opening is moved away from the inlet opening and past the outlet opening, air can flow from the inlet opening, through the passageway and out of the outlet opening, causing a flow of air, drawing air through ventilation openings in the frame. When the end of the block proximal to the inlet opening is moved towards the inlet opening and past the outlet opening, obstructing the outlet opening, the air flow is turned off.
