Abstract
A safety seat including a crash resistent barrier to protect a small child on the lap of an adult in the even of an airplane crash. A frame including a back and a pair of sidewalls receives the bucket seat that holds the child. The frame is formed from a continuous piece of aircraft tubing bent in such a way as to form an outer oval portion and a V-shaped inner portion that provides springy resilience to the frame. A two-part crash barrier is positionable over the front of the child so that the force of an adult lurching forward will not crush the child. Seat belt receiving hooks keep the safety seat and the child securely in place on the lap of the passenger. A pair of U-shaped inflatable rings attachable around the frame keep the seat floating in an upright position if the airplane ditches over water. The two-part crash resistent barrier can be folded backwardly and locked in position so that the seat will assume one of two given angles if it is desired to use the device in an automobile. At one angle the seat faces rearwardly for infants and at the other angle the seat faces frontward for older children. A convertible cart can be attached to the seat so that a parent can wheel the child through an airport. The handle of the cart may be turned downwardly so that the cart can also be used as a backpack.

6402241 - Child's safety seat

A child's safety seat for use with a forwards facing adult seat in an aircraft has a framework for supporting a child facing backwards, towards the adult seat, above the floor with the framework supported on the floor in front of the adult seat. A fabric pouch for holding the child is supported on the framework and has a back, a bottom, a front and two leg openings. A strap is provided for securing the fabric pouch to the adult restraint of the adult seat. A hook arrangement is provided for securing the framework of the child's safety seat to the frame of the adult seat. Thus a child can be restrained in the safety seat facing a restrained occupant of the adult seat.

6863017 - Safety seat for a marine craft or other vehicle

A safety seat assembly including a seat or like occupant support structured to maintain an occupant, such as a child or infant, in a predetermined, substantially upright orientation relative to the vehicle during travel thereof. A stabilization assembly includes an orientation portion moveable with the vehicle relative to the occupant support throughout a substantially universal range of orientations so as to compensate for any movement of the vehicle including lateral sway, turning, acceleration, de-acceleration, etc, which would tend to displace the occupant and occupant support from the preferred orientation. In one embodiment, the occupant support includes a floatation assembly as well as a ballast structure, wherein the occupant support is removably mounted on a water craft and is structured to maintain an occupant in an above surface, floating orientation in the water in the event of an emergency.

7008281 - Child carrier floatation enhancement

A floatation enhancing structure for providing improved flotation of a baby seat, a car seat, or a child/infant carrier includes a buoyant collar that is attached to the seat or carrier generally horizontal to the plane of the seat in repose. A vertical hoop or buoyant material is connected to a carrying handle of the carrier. The vertical hoop will serve to assist in righting the carrier in the event the carrier is inadvertently dropped into a significant body or water having depth sufficient to allow self-righting of the floatation enhanced baby seat. Variations and methods with different advantageous features are also described.

5845876 - Bulkhead infant-toddler passive restraint system

An apparatus for storing infant's safety seat within a movable passenger carrying transporter such as an aircraft or bus in the transporter's bulkhead section. The seat may be stored in a compartment located within a table or within a formed bulkhead storage compartment. When stored in a table, a hinged connection pivotally mounts the seat to the table. When in the bulkhead compartment a vertical door permits the infant to be placed within the seat in the compartment. In either embodiment an infant accessory storage mesh bag may be used to store infant items such as diapers, toys, or other infant care items.
