A speed awareness device for allowing passing traffic to perceive from a source other than their own speedometers their true speed. A trailer supports a container within which a radar source is contained operatively connected to a display panel. A suitable source of power operates the radar and display and includes a battery, an optional photo voltaic source to power the battery and a plurality of instrumentalities to preclude or render less likely that the trailer will be moved by unauthorized personnel. These instrumentalities include a removeable trailer hitch, an axle lock, support stands for elevating the trailer and an internal alarm system.
A method of traffic control is disclosed which includes the steps of measuring the speed of a vehicle, automatically reading the license plate of the vehicle, automatically, in a computer system, matching the license plate number to information about the owner of the vehicle, and displaying the name of the owner of the vehicle.
A system for providing warning notices of potentially unsafe road conditions ahead. The system includes a graphic display unit, having a plurality of light emitting pixels, for displaying a road condition ahead, a display unit driver for driving the light emitting pixels of the graphic display unit, a controller for transmitting control signals and graphic data to be displayed to the display unit driver, a plurality of manually operable switches for commanding the controller to perform a programmed operation, and a car speed sensor for detecting car speed and transmitting the detected car speed to the controller.
A message system having a wall with opposite first and second sides. The wall has at least one of (a) a mirrored surface which is capable of producing a discernible, reflective image of an object placed at the first side of the wall, and (b) a blocking surface which substantially obstructs viewing of an object at the second side of the wall through the wall from the first side of the wall. The message system further includes a message generator capable of making a message viewable from the first side of the wall through at least a part of the wall.
a video incident capture system for law enforcement vehicles. The video incident capture system incorporates a video camera, a video recorder, a radar unit, a real time clock, a monitor, a portable wireless microphone and its associated receiver and a system controller integrating the control of the various components to produce a comprehensive, unedited record of the incident. The system controller superimposes the target speed and patrol speed data generated by the radar unit over the video signals generated by the video camera prior to being recorded on the videotape. The portable wireless microphone permits the conversation between the law enforcement and a second party to be made part of the recorded incident. A radar interface will replace the target and/or patrol speed data with error data when an error in the operating parameters of the radar unit is detected. The system controller also provides a control function which prohibits the video recorder from recording over a previously recorded portion of the videotape when the videotape has been either rewound or fast-forwarded from the position where the prior recording was terminated. The system controller and video recorder are enclosed in a temperature controlled sealed vault mounted in the trunk of the law enforcement vehicle.
A speed display device for focusing a motorist's attention on the vehicle's speed, includes a screen which will digitally display thereon the vehicle's radar measured speed in either a first steady state at one color or in a flashing state at a second color. An internal microprocessor compares a preset threshold speed with the vehicle's measured speed. If the measured vehicle's speed is not greater than the threshold speed, the measured speed is screen displayed by energization of a first set of amber lights in a pattern according to the measured speed. If the measured speed is above the threshold speed, a second set of red flashing lights is energized in an accentuated pattern according to the measured speed. The device focuses the motorist's attention on the vehicle speed per se, particularly when above the threshold limit.
