This invention relates to the aromatic polyamide resin of the following general formula(I) having pendant silyl groups characterized in that the said polyamide resin has excellent solubility for the films to be easily prepared by solvent casting as well as useful as coating materials, can be used at higher temperature than the reported polyamides because of the excellent heat stability, and also has excellent adhesive strength in the blend with glass fiber. ##STR1##
Organosilicon-containing materials are useful in articles such as biomedical devices, including contact lenses. The materials include macromonomers endcapped with at least one ethylenically unsaturated radical, and monomers. The macromonomers and monomers include units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein: each Y is --O-- or --NR.sup.30 -- wherein R.sup.30 is H or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; each R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 is independently selected from the group consisting of H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 haloalkyl, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkyl wherein at least one methylene group is replaced with --O--, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 haloalkyl wherein at least one methylene group is replaced with --O--, and --R.sup.Si ; m and n are independently 0 or an integer of 1 to 6; each R.sup.Si is independently an organosilicon radical; and R is the divalent residue of an .alpha., .omega.-dihydroxyl compound or an .alpha., .omega.-diamino compound.
An invention is disclosed which comprises siloxane-based polyamides as gelling agents for cosmetic products, methods for making such agents, formulations therof and cosmetic formulations therewith. These polyamides contain siloxane groups in the main chain and act to thicken compositions containing volatile and/or non-volatile silicone fluids. Cosmetic compositions may be made by adding at least one active ingredient such as an antiperspirant.
Clear antiperspirant and/or deodorant compositions, especially clear sticks having good structural integrity, can be formed by incorporating at least 8% by weight based on the total weight of the composition of a selected siliconized polyamide into a product formulated with at least one silicone material and at least one non-silicone emollient. The siliconized polyamides have the silicone portion in the acid side of the polyamide and are selected so that: (a) the degree of polymerization in the silicone portion is in the range of 12-18; (b) the average molecular weight of the siliconized polyamide is at least 50,000 daltons with at least 95% of the polyamide having a molecular weight greater than 10,000 as measured by size exclusion chromatography; and (c) the polydispersity is less than 20.
The invention comprises a liquid composition which provides a drier feel and reduced leakage when used with certain types of applicators, especially an applicator having a porous surface, which composition is made by combining an active phase and a silicone phase. The active phase is made by combining: (a) 10-70% of a selected glycol; (b) 0.1-10% of a nonionic emulsifier having an HLB greater than 8; (c) 0.01-30% of a cosmetically active ingredient; and (d) 0-20% of ethanol and/or isopropanol. The silicone phase is made by combining: (a) from 0.1-10% of a selected emulsifier; (b) 0-30% of a non-volatile silicone; (c) 0-30% of a volatile silicone; and (d) 0-25% of an organic emollient; provided that: (a) the silicone phase contains at least 10% silicone; (b) the ratio of silicone phase to active phase is in the range of 1:1 to 1:4; and (c) the composition is processed to maintain a viscosity in the range of 2,000-200,000 centipoise ("cps").
