In an online processing device connected to a packet switched network which is supplied with a call signal from a data terminal unit used by a plurality of users, the data terminal unit supplies the packet switched network with the call signal which carries an identification code specific to each of users. The packet switched network supplies the online processing device with a call packet signal carrying the identification code. The online processing device includes a memory section for memorizing a plurality of identification number codes which are different from one another. A reading section is supplied with the identification code carried by the call packet signal and reads the identification codes as identifying codes from the memory section. An operating section puts a processing section into operation to carry out an online processing operation on the processing section and the data terminal unit through the packet switched network when one of the identifying codes is coincident with the identification code.
A computer system architecture includes microcell computing units with a moving memory distribution of data and instructions to the microcells which are connected to users and other peripheral devices via a telephony type of cell access switch. The computing microcell can be a single computing element or can be a nucleus processor which is connected to a number of satellite processors via a bus or star configuration, and which interfaces with the moving memory modules and cell access switch. The moving memory modules are functionally petitioned to include user's files for data, and operating system instructions, and journal files and reservation files, all of which repetitively broadcast the contents of memory via a moving memory bus within dissimilar repetition intervals.
A method for allowing a user PC to be controlled in order to effect a connection between the user PC and a destination node on a network. This is facilitated through an audio source wherein the content of digital video disk recording media has embedded therein an audio signal. When the recording media is played, the audio signal is extracted by an audio extractor and transmitted to the user PC, and detected by a program running in the background of the user PC. Once the audible tone is detected, a web browser is launched and the tone or decoded product identifier information associated with the tone is transmitted to an ARS on the network. The ARS then compares the information received from the user PC using information from a relational database. The relational database contains routing information for various destination nodes on the network. When a match occurs, the matching information is then forwarded back to the user PC and this is utilized to route the user PC to the particular destination node corresponding to the audible tone for the processing of information received therefrom.
A method for monitoring client interaction with a resource downloaded from a server in a computer network includes the steps of using a client to specify an address of a resource located on a first server, downloading a file corresponding to the resource from the first server in response to specification of the address, using the client to specify an address of a first executable program located on a second server, the address of the first executable program being embedded in the file downloaded from the first server, the first executable program including a software timer for monitoring the amount of time the client spends interacting with and displaying the file downloaded from the first server, downloading the first executable program from the second server to run on the client so as to determine the amount of time the client interacts with the file downloaded from the first server, using a server to acquire client identifying indicia from the client, and uploading the amount of time determined by the first executable program to a third server.
A method and system for analysing and measuring multiple sources of data over a communication network (18) so as to ascertain information or usage of one or more resources, such as resource servers (2). A data collection and processing means (20) collects and processes the data sources which are forwarded to a reporting server (34) as a combined data source made available to interested parties.
The invention can enable monitoring of the display of content by a computer system. Moreover, the invention can enable monitoring of the displayed content to produce monitoring information from which conclusions may be deduced regarding the observation of the displayed content by an observer. The invention can also enable monitoring of the display at a content display site of content that is provided by a content provider site over a network to the content display site. Additionally, the invention can enable the expeditious provision of updated and/or tailored content over a network from a content provider site to a content display site so that the content provider's current and appropriately tailored content is always displayed at the content display site. Aspects of the invention related to transfer of content over a network are generally applicable to any type of network. However, it is contemplated that the invention can be particularly useful with a computer network, including private computer networks (e.g., America Online.TM.) and public computer networks (e.g., the Internet). In particular, the invention can be advantageously used with computer networks or portions of computer networks over which video and/or audio content are transferred from one network site to another network site for observation, such as the World Wide Web portion of the Internet.
