The invention pertains to a self-contained, mobile, pavement repair apparatus. A self-propelled, wheeled vehicle is described, upon which are mounted a material supply hopper, a debris storage, an overhead crane arm, and an articulated conveyor arm. Mounted on the business end of the crane arm are various implements for performing pavement repair, all of which are remotely controlled by a single user in an enclosed cab. Asphalt or concrete patching material is transported by an auger from the tiltable supply hopper to an articulated conveyor arm, which conveyor arm deposits the material upon the repair area. The user remotely controls the overhead crane arm in order to position and actuate, from the cab, the various repair implements. All apparatus functions, materials and safety devices necessary to complete the repair process may be operated by a single user.
A crack sealing apparatus having a heated hose trough is presented which eliminates the need to purge or clean the hose and/or applicator wand that is used to apply sealant to cracks in a roadway. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, the crack sealing apparatus includes a repository for storing and heating sealant, a hose attached to the repository, a pump for transporting sealant from the repository through the hose, a trough for retaining and heating the hose, and a tubular member located within the trough having a hot liquid or gas circulating therethrough for heating sealant contained within the hose.
An improved asphalt patching machine which is mountable to a motor vehicle having a supply of asphalt patch material thereon. The patching machine comprises a dispensing and finishing assembly fed by a multi-part, articulatable conveyor which feeds asphalt patching material to the dispensing and finishing assembly, which is movable in substantially the plane of the roadway, to position the dispensing and finishing assembly over the effected area to be patched. The machine first deposits patching material in the effected area and, thereafter, from the dispensing and finishing assembly, integrates the patch into the existing surrounding roadway.
A patcher system for patching a paved surface includes a remotely controllable arm attachable to a vehicle and a patching material dispensing subsystem disposed on the remotely controllable arm. The patcher system may be part of a mobile patcher system which additionally includes a vehicle, a patching material distribution subsystem disposed on the vehicle, and a control subsystem. A software product may include instructions that, when executed by a computer, perform steps for controlling the patcher system.
An attachment device for laying two surface layers which may also consist of different materials in a road way. The device should be economical to produce and suitable for laying multilayer road surfaces or for simply laying a conventional single layer surface. To this end, the inventive attachment contains elements for simultaneously laying two layers, hot on hot. The elements are mounted on a frame to be detachably connected to the finisher, the frame having fixing points for detachably connecting the attachment and the finisher and the attachment and the driver's cab.
A mobile asphalt production machine mixes bituminous concrete at the job site through a mixing auger mechanism mounted in an insulated housing. Propane burners provide heat within the mixing auger mechanism and within the insulated housing to produce a hot-mix bituminous concrete in large or small batches. The components of the asphalt mixture are stored in separate bins that can be re-filled at the job site to provide a continuous supply of asphalt. Hot liquid bitumen is added to heated aggregate within the mixing auger mechanism. Recycled asphalt can be added through a port in the mixing auger for incorporation into the mixture. Controls permit the rate of flow of each individual component to be selectively varied in order to change the recipe for the mixture and to provide calibration of the component, while a master control will maintain the pre-established flow rates through a variable speed of operation.
