Abstract
A spray nozzle assembly having a spray tip formed with an elongated, cylindrical chamber communicating with the liquid supply and being formed with a cross-slot which intersects the chamber at a location intermediate the ends thereof for defining a discharge orifice, a deflection surface on a downstream side of the discharge orifice for directing liquid in a direction transverse to the axis of the chamber, and a pocket extending downstream of the deflector surface. In one embodiment, the spray tip has a pre-orifice substantially smaller in diameter than the chamber adjacent an upstream end thereof, in another embodiment, the chamber is disposed with its axis at an angle to the vertical and the cross-slot extends upwardly in substantially vertical relation for defining a vertical deflection surface, and in still another embodiment the spray tip has a wear resistant metal insert. In yet another embodiment, the chamber extends horizontally and has a long dimension which is significantly greater than the correspondingly extending dimension of an opening through a retention cap.

6053426 - Apparatus for painting an ice surface of rink - Owned by Lawrence Church & Dale R. Bourns (Dugald,CA)

Apparatus for spraying an ice surface with a white paint comprises a trailer having a tank carried on the trailer, a pump and a boom having a plurality of spray nozzles. The tank has a large opening in the top for receiving bags of paint pigment. The pump is a high capacity pump which generates a flow rate significantly greater than necessary to supply the nozzles. The excess is returned to the tank through a jet mixing system including four arms each having a pair of jet nozzles. A mixing wand is also provided which receives mixed materials from the pump for the jet nozzle for stirring within the tank. The nozzles are closely spaced so as to generate an overlapping spray pattern. The nozzles generate a fine mist and are directed slightly upwardly and rearwardly.

6398128 - Quick disconnect nozzle assembly - Owned by Spraying Systems Co. (Wheaton, IL)

A spraying system having a plurality of spray nozzle assemblies mounted on a common liquid supply header. The spray nozzle assemblies each include a nozzle body fixed to the header and a spray tip secured to the body as an incident to rotation of the spray tip relative to the body. Each spray tip has an elongated discharge orifice adapted for emitting a flat spray pattern and is formed with radial gripping wings in aligned relation to the elongated discharge orifice which enable the user to know the orientation of the discharge orifice, and hence the orientation of the flat discharging spray pattern, prior to start up of a spray operation. The nozzle bodies further each are formed with at least one pair of indicator nibs, which when disposed in longitudinal alignment with the liquid supply header, automatically establishes an orientation of the spray tip elongated discharge orifice at a predetermined relative small angle to the axis of the header so as to avoid impingement of the discharging flat spray patterns of adjacent nozzle assemblies. An alternative embodiment of a spray tip has a slightly modified locking lug design for effecting mounting of the spray tip in the common body with the discharge orifice aligned with the axis of the fluid supply header. Further alternative embodiments include a spray nozzle with a swivel mounted adapter and quick disconnect spray tip, or with an adapter having a screw-in orifice defining insert for the particular spray application.

5592822 - Fluid deflection skirt apparatus - Owned by Lockheed Martin Corporation (Bethesda, MD)

A skirt for deflecting a fluid supply comprises a remote and a close portion (with respect to distance from a fluid impinged surface). The skirt is located in close proximity to a surface to be impinged by the fluid. The skirt is especially suited for use in conjunction with a Joule-Thomson cryostat and can also be used in conjunction with more than one cryostat for cooling of electronic devices. The remote portion of the skirt is disposed around the nozzle or nozzles of the fluid supply so that each fluid supply (or nozzle) extends through a hole in the remote portion of the skirt. The interior surface of the close portion of the skirt extends closer to the fluid impinged surface than each nozzle. The skirt efficiently wets the impinged surface with a fluid providing a measure of control over the outward velocity of the fluid as it progresses along the fluid impinged surface.

7380732 - Multiple discharge orifice spray nozzle - Owned by Spraying Systems Co. (Wheaton, IL)

A spray tip for discharging a controlled liquid spray distribution is provided. The spray tip includes a spray tip body having an inlet end for connection to a pressurized liquid supply. The spray tip body includes a first fluid chamber having a first longitudinal axis and a second fluid chamber in fluid communication with the first fluid chamber and having a second longitudinal axis that extends transversely relative to the first longitudinal axis. A pair of discharge orifices are formed in the spray tip body. Each discharge orifice has a downstream side with a deflector surface for directing liquid discharging from the chamber. Each discharge orifice intersects the second fluid chamber adjacent a respective end thereof so as to define a pocket extending downstream of the deflector surface.

7137568 - Apparatus and method for flow diverter

A flow diverter for diverting an initial flow stream of pressurized fluid from a source of pressurized fluid. The flow diverter comprises a housing having an upstream end, an inlet opening in the upstream end, a downstream end generally opposed to the upstream end, a top plate extending between the upstream end and the downstream end, a bottom plate generally opposed to the top plate and extending between the upstream end and the downstream end, and a pair of generally opposed lateral sides extending between the upstream end, the downstream end, the top plate and the bottom plate. The upstream end is adapted to be attached to the source of pressurized fluid and the inlet opening is adapted to receive the initial flow stream of pressurized fluid from the source of pressurized fluid. The downstream end is adapted to divert the initial flow stream of pressurized fluid toward the pair of generally opposed lateral sides. The pair of generally opposed lateral sides are adapted to permit the initial flow stream of pressurized fluid to exit the housing in a pair of generally opposed diverted flow streams of pressurized fluid that are substantially perpendicular to the initial flow stream of pressurized fluid. The pair of generally opposed lateral sides are also adapted to permit the measurement of the initial flow stream of pressurized fluid.
