The present invention provides a formula and method for the prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia and cellular hyperproliferation. More specifically, the present invention provides a method for administering a formula including glucaric acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for the prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia and cellular hyperproliferation in humans and animals. It has been determined that glucaric acid and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof significantly lower the total and LDL level of serum cholesterol and inhibit cellular hyperproliferation when administered in therapeutic amounts. It is intended that glucaric acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is employed alone or in combination with other medicinal agents for the prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia and cellular hyperproliferation.
The present invention relates to formulations and methods for preventing and treating liver injury and fibrosis in cholestasis. This is accomplished by the administration of a composition which includes selected antioxidants.

A maintenance regimen with controlled intake of particular vitamin, mineral, and micronutrient formulations, drastically reduces the incidence and severity of sickle cell disease crises. The formulations include vitamin A, vitamin B-1, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, niacinamide, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), pantothenic acid, choline bitartrate, inositol, rutin, citrus bioflavonoid complex, betaine hydrochloride, hesperidin complex, folic acid, biotin, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, potassium, manganese, iodine, chromium, selenium, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, provided at or just below critical saturation levels, determined for each individual by carefully monitoring tolerance on titration. The daily dose may exceed that necessary as dietary or nutritional supplements, and trigger an increase in the production of viable hemoglobin, and alters the overall blood profile. Platelet concentration is increased up to twice that of seen in normal blood, and the red blood cells produced display increased resistance to sickling. This enhanced biosynthesis is achieved by providing sufficient stores of precursors that stimulate low level manufacture without substantial feedback control by the upper central nervous system.
A nutritional supplement for improving cardiovascular health via aiding in preventing, delaying the onset of and/or slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, the supplement comprising one or more flavonoids and folic acid or folate; and a method for aiding in preventing, delaying the onset of and/or slowing the progression of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease are described.
A composition and method for treating hepatic steatosis, steatohepatitis, and liver diseases associated with or characterized by these conditions. The composition consists essentially of defined amounts of soluble vitamin E, mixed carotenoids and selenium and in one aspect, can include at least one additional agent for the treatment of these conditions.
