A teaching aid (10) for alpine skiers is disclosed in this invention. The pupil is supported by a cradle (11) at the pupil's mid-section. The instructor controls the pupil's weight distribution and orientation to the hill by moving the cradle (11), and by maintaining eye contact and verbal communication with the pupil.
An apparatus adapted for coupling between an attendant positioned either behind or in front of a patient on an exercise assembly such as a treadmill for rehabilitation of a functionally impaired leg of the patient such as one suffering from paralysis. The apparatus comprises a leg appliance secured to a patpatient'sg, with a leg bracket adjacent to the knee. A leg brace secured to an attendant's leg also includes a bracket adjacent to the attattendant'see. At least one connecting member provides coupling from the leg bracket to the bracket of the leg brace to transmit motion from an attendant's leg to a patient's leg using forces acting from the leg brace to the leg appliance through the connecting member. An ankle appliance having an upper extension and a lower extension proximate the ankle is attached to a patient's foot and an ankle brace is similarly attached to an attendant's foot. The ankle brace has a brace upper extension and a brace lower extension adjacent the ankle of an attendant with the brace upper extension coupled by an upper ankle link to the upper extension of the patient's ankle appliance, while the brace lower extension is coupled by a lower ankle link to the lower extension of the ankle appliance. Each of the upper link and the lower link are adapted to create movement of a patient's foot corresponding to movement of a foot of an attendant during walking. Further coupled to the ankle brace is an offset link for transferring side-to-side motions. The coordinated leg and ankle movement allows a patient's paralysis damaged leg to duplicate the walking motion of an attendant's leg.
A snowboard training device is provided which allows a an instructor to direct the movement of a snowboard trainee from a reasonable distance. The snowboard training device includes an inner member suitable for attaching firmly to the mid-section of the trainee, a rigid outer member disposed spaced apart from the mid-section of the trainee, and at least one connecting member which acts to fixedly attach the inner member to the outer member in a horizontal disposition. The snowboard training device further includes an elliptical hoop or other rigid device fixedly attached to a harness worn by the snowboard trainee and which extends horizontally about the mid-section of the trainee at a distance that allows an instructor to direct the movement of the trainee while the snowboard trainee is snowboarding on a snow slope.
A snowboard teaching and recreational device by which an instructor may direct the movement, weight shift and control the center of gravity of the pupil. The device preferably uses two parallel tubes as a support frame, with two crossbars secured to the support frame and spaced handle grips on each crossbar. The instructor grasps one end of the support frame while the pupil grasps the opposite end, thereby allowing the instructor to direct the weight shift and movements of the pupil through use of the said device.
A new and improved hand held training device for instructing able bodied and disabled skiers. A gripping bar is attached proximal to the top of a pole member which declines to be attached to a planar member on bottom. The planar member includes a curved up front-end running surface and a normal sliding section for moving the device forward. A rearwardly inclined and extended suspension member attaches and suspends one or more downward extended anti-skid members (fins and adjustable flaps) above and substantially to the rear of the normal sliding section of the planar member. Preferred suspension members include said pole member (which inclines and extends rearward from the planar member), and a rearwardly inclined and extended addition to the planar member. To operate, able bodied skiers use one device having a crossbar on top. Whereas, disabled skiers use two devices having a gripping bar and forearm cuff.
