The invention is related to a composition for the permanent waving of human hair with improved properties of use, containing alkanediols in combination with ammonium carbamate as alkalinizing compound.
A process for imparting curl retention onto hair involving (a) forming a hair fixative, said hair fixative containing: (i) an alkyl polyglycoside having general formula I: wherein R.sub.1 is a monovalent organic radical having from about 6 to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is divalent alkylene radical having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms; Z is a saccharide residue having 5 or 6 carbon atoms; b is a number having a value from 0 to about 12; a is a number having a value from 1 to about 6; and (ii) a solvent; and (b) applying said hair fixative onto said hair.
A highly effective permanent waving lotion is attained by employing one compound selected from the group consisting of glyceryl monothiopropionate, glyceryl thiolactate, and combinations of glyceryl monothiopropionate and glyceryl thiolactate as the sole reducing agent. In accordance with this invention, the reducing agent is employed either independently in an aqueous solution or in association with desired additives for imparting additional benefits to the permanently waved hair. Preferably, the reducing agents of the present invention are employed in a permanent waving lotion having a pH ranging between about 6.0 and 9.5. In this way, processing time is reduced and long lasting permanently waved hair is attained with substantially less malodor being produced.
The invention provides an aqueous, hard surface cleaner with significantly improved residue removal and substantially reduced filming/streaking, said cleaner comprising: (a) an effective amount of at least one organic solvent with a vapor pressure of at least 0.001 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., and mixtures of such solvents; (b) an effective amount of at least one semi-polar nonionic surfactant, said surfactant having the structure: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.5-20 alkyl, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are both C.sub.1-4 alkyl, ##STR2## OR --(CH.sub.2).sub.p -OH, although R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 do not have to be equal, and n is 1-5, and p is 1-6; (c) an effective amount of a buffering system which comprises a nitrogenous buffer which will result in a pH of greater than 6.5; and (d) the remainder as substantially all water.
