A carton having a collapsed bottom wall is erected by a machine which engages opposed side walls and draws these walls apart. Simultaneously the side walls are separated by movement in a transverse direction and the bottom wall panels are interlocked.
An apparatus for removing a folding-box blank (Z) from a magazine and for erecting the same has a first retaining means (6) with means (62) for gripping a first box wall (W1) of the blank (Z) and a second retaining means (7) with means (72) for gripping a second, adjacent box wall (W2) located on the same side of the blank (Z). The two retaining means (6, 7) can be moved relative to one another in order to erect the box. This allows the folding-box blank to be removed and erected in a space-saving and efficient manner.
In an apparatus for picking up flat folded tubular blanks from a magazine and for moving the blanks to an erecting station, a horizontal transmission shaft transmits a rotational movement about a first articulation axis to a functional arm hinged with one side to a terminal portion of the transmission shaft. Another side of the functional arm is hinged to an arrangement control mechanism for controlling arrangement of the functional arm about a second articulation axis. The functional arm is also operated into rotation about the first articulation axis between a position in alignment with the functional arm, and a square position arranged at 90 degrees with respect to the functional arm, and vice versa. A pick up arm is connected to arrangement control mechanism and carries suction cups for picking up a flat folded tubular blank through the open bottom of the magazine. The arrangement control mechanism is moved with respect to the second articulation axis for operating the apparatus, beside the operation of the functional arm affected by the transmission shaft, between a picking up station and an erection station for erecting the tubular blank, and vice-versa.
A carton opening method and assembly for a continuous motion packaging machine directs opposed carton engaging plates perpendicular to opposite side walls of a collapsed carton moving through the opening assembly. A vacuum is applied to the opposed carton side walls when the assemblies engage the carton. One or more of the opposed carton engaging assemblies are retracted to fully open the carton, which is then transferred to a conveyor that transports the carton to the next workstation of the packaging machine. The carton opening operation is accomplished while tracking the carton movement through the carton opening assembly.
A device for removing flat articles, in particular blanks of collapsed boxes from a delivery station and for transferring them to a receiving station which has a transport device thereat. Plural suction arms each with suction devices thereon are provided, which suction arms move through a self-contained cycloidal path. The cycloidal path has several tips and curved segments lying therebetween. The delivery station and the receiving station are each arranged at a tip of the cycloidal path. A rotor is provided for moving the suction arms. A sun and planet gear arrangement is provided on the rotor, which sun and planet gear delineate the cycloidal path. The suction arms are aligned parallel to one another and preferably to the transport direction of the transport device in order to achieve in this manner a technically simple and reliable device.
A carton opening assembly for a continuous motion packaging machine directs opposed carton engaging plates perpendicular to opposite side walls of a collapsed carton moving through the opening assembly. A vacuum is applied to the opposed carton side walls when the assemblies engage the carton. One or both of the opposed carton engaging assemblies are retracted to filly open the carton, which is then transferred to a conveyor that transports the carton to the next workstation of the packaging machine. The carton opening operation is accomplished while tracking the carton movement through the carton opening assembly.
